MSGBB 2012-02-28 NWMS vs Anacortes

The North Whidbey Middle School teams played at home Tuesday afternoon against the Anacortes Seahawks, and although the Cougars played well at times, Anacortes won both games.

In the 7th grade game, the Seahawks grabbed an early 5-0 lead, but the Cougars fought back and with 4:22 to go in the first quarter took the lead 6-5 and led 12-5 at the first buzzer. With 1:12 left in the half the game was tied 12-12, but a last second shot (and the only NWMS field goal in the period) put the Cougars up 14-12 at halftime.

Anacortes opened up their offense in the second half, scoring 12 points in the 3rd and another 13 in the 4th to win 37-23. Only 3 Cougars got on the board, according to the scorebook - Rahsahna with 12, Michaela with 6 and Bryn with 4. The scoreboard showed 3 more points that weren't credited in the book.

The Anacortes 8th grade team is very good this year, beating the OHMS team earlier in the season. In this game, the Seahawks started their subs, and NW took advantage of that to take an early 6-0 lead, and led 6-2 at the end of the first period. Anacortes put their regular starters in the game in the 2nd period, and after a few minutes to get warmed up, showed their dominance, tying the game with 2:20 left in the half. After scoring just 2 in the first quarter, Anacortes scored 14 in the second.

In the second half, Anacortes outscored the Cougars nearly 3-to-1 to win the game 46-21. Rosie scored 9, Annabelle 8 and Katie hit a pair of free throws late. Two points were not accounted for in the book.

Rec Basketball 2012

The local Oak Harbor recreational basketball league just finished their season. Every Saturday from 9am until well after noon, hundreds of young basketball players were on the court at either OHMS or NWMS, learning basketball skills, teamworks, and making new friends.

A big thanks to Bryan Schulle at the high school for organizing the league and to the boys and girls basketball players who took time out of their weekends to officiate the games. Finally, the volunteer coaches deserve a big thanks for donating their time to help the kids and make the future of Oak Harbor basketball bright.

Below are a series of links to action photos taken during the games. All teams are represented, but not necessarily every child. Due to the nature of sports photography and the amount of time that the photographer could give to each game, some children were probably missed. It was not intentional.
