Oak Harbor sent a total of 6 wrestlers to two regional tournaments over the weekend.
Sophomore Jennifer Fremd went to the girls tournament at Sedro-Woolley and finished in 4th place, good enough for a trip to Tacoma for next week's State Tournament.
In Auburn, Oak Harbor was represented by sophomore Corey Trimbur (103 lbs), senior Colton Elliot (140 lbs), soph Brandon Stratton (145 lbs) and senior Zach Loescher (171 lbs). Sophomore Justin Everett went as an alternate but did not wrestle.
All 4 guy wrestlers lost one match on the first day. Stratton and Loescher each lost two matches and were eliminated Friday night.
On Saturday, Trimbur faced Sonny Bates-Mundell of Snohomish, a wrestler he had trouble with at the District Tournament and wound up on the short end of a 10-3 score and was eliminated.
Elliot started Saturday with a pin, then faced a WESCO North opponent in Brian Donaldson of Marysville, the WESCO champion who beat Colton 6-2 in the tournament. It was a tough match, but Colton lost by the closest of margins, 1-0. Now in the 5th/6th match, with the winner going to state and the loser going home, Colton dug deep and pinned Strickland of Kamiak in 4:18.
So, next week make sure to cheer for Colton and Jennifer as they go to Tacoma for the 2010 Mat Classic.
