The girls soccer team opened their 2012 campaign with a non-league contest against the Falcons of South Whidbey. Last year the JV Wildcats ended the season with a 4-11-1 record while the JV Falcons went 2-10-3. The 2011 Falcon varsity squad had a 5-10 record while the Wildcats were 0-13-3.
When the day ended, only 1 of the four teams had a mark in the loss column.
The two JV squads played to a scoreless half, then Anne TePaske booted one in in the 60th minute to put the Wildcats up 1-0. South Whidbey fought back hard, but could not get the ball past the Oak Harbor keeper.
Varsity action also ended 0-0 at halftime, but the Wildcats got on the board in the 68th minute when Lauryn Plush booted the ball just over the head of the South Whidbey Keeper from nearly 25 yards out. Oak Harbor held on to their lead until the 76th minute when the Falcons were able to scoot the ball past OH keeper Makenzie Perry to tie the game at 1-1, and that's the way the game ended.
Next up for the Wildcats is a trip south to Coupeville on Thursday to take on the Wolves on their home turf. It's a varsity only contest, so the start time will be 5pm.
