Youth wrestling kicked off the 2012-2013 season with a pair of tournaments at Mt. Vernon HS this past weekend.
Saturday was an open tournament, and out of 27 teams that scored points in the event, the Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling club finished tied for 5th place with 11 points.
Ten wrestlers made the early morning trip, and half of them were champions in their age and weight brackets. An additional two wrestlers finished in 3rd and one more in 4th.
Sunday was a novice only league tournament. Only wrestlers in their first or second year of wrestling were allowed to compete, and no team scored were compiled.
In Sunday's event, Oak Harbor entered 9 wrestlers, and all of them finished in the top four. There was a single weight bracket champion, five 2nd-place finishers, one in 3rd place and two in 4th place.
