FB 2013-10-11 Varsity vs Mt. Vernon

The Oak Harbor Wildcats looked to continue their winning ways last Friday night, hosting the 4A Mt. Vernon Bulldogs, who were coming off a big win over the Lake Stevens Vikings, the source of the Wildcats' lone loss this season.

The game started on a sour note as the Wildcats fumbled the ball deep in their own territory on the 3rd play of the game, but the defense held, forcing the Bulldogs to kick a field goal that missed.

On their second possession, Oak Harbor got their powerful offense in gear, moving 80 yards in 8 plays to score on a 26-yard Sheyenne Sams run at the 5:17 mark in the first quarter, and that score would stand until horn.

Dyllan Harris was the star of the second quarter, scoring on a 6-yard run and again on a 35-yard pass from QB Clay Doughty, pushing the score to 21-0.  Julan Faralan added another score with 1:47 left in the half to make it 28-0.

Opening the second half, Mt. Vernon scored in the first minute on a 13-yard run, but OH answered later in the quarter.  Facing a 4th and 2 near midfield, the Wildcat coaches made the decision to go for a first down rather than punt, and the play they called worked like a charm.  Sams broke loose and gained not just a first down, but a touchdown, slipping numerous tackles on the way.  5:06 to go in the 3rd OH 35, MV 7.

Mt. Vernon got one last score, midway through the 4th quarter, scoring on a 1-yard run, but the final score was Oak Harbor 35, Mt. Vernon 14.
