Youth Wrestling 2010-12-12 at Sedro-Woolley

The day after the big Spud Walley tournament for high school wrestlers, several hundred youth wrestlers took over the mats for their own tournament.

The numbers were down a bit for the Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club, with only 10 wrestlers at the tournament.

More Youth Wrestling 2010-11-13

The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling club was in action again last Saturday with a tournament at Arlington High School.

Oak Harbor took 21 wrestlers to the tournament and came away with 6 first place finishes. Five others finished in 2nd place, and at the Novice 85 weight class, the Wildcats finished 1-2 in the bracket.

As a team, they amassed enough points to finish in 4th place out of 23 teams.

Youth wresting 1-16 and 1-17

OHHS was the scene of lots of wrestling over the weekend. Saturday saw the annual Wildcat Classic tournament while Sunday was a Western Washington Kids Wrestling League novice-only tournament.

There was some tough wrestling on Saturday. The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club entered 25 wrestlers and less than half came away with some hardware. There was only 1 first-place finisher, 3 second-place finishers and 6 third place finishers. There were some very good young wrestlers on the mats and many exciting matches.

Sunday's league-only novice tournament was for 1st and 2nd year wrestlers only. The Wildcat entered 20 wrestlers and 5 emerged as champions. 3 others finished in second place and 7 in third place. 75% of the wrestlers earned a medal by the end of the day. Great job Wildcats!

A big shout-out to the tournament organizers who ensured the tournament ran smoothly, and another shout to the JV wrestlers who gave up their weekend to man the score tables at the 8 mats.

Youth wrestling - 1/2/10 at Burlington

The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club wasted no time getting right back into wrestling in the new year with a trip to Burlington on January 2nd for a tournament.

Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling 11-14-2009 at Lynnwood

The Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling team competed in a Tournament at the new Lynnwood High School on Saturday, and on Sunday there was a Novice (1st and 2nd year wrestlers only) tournament at Arlington HS.

Complete results aren't yet available, but the Wildcat wrestlers fought hard and showed great sportsmanship.

Youth Wrestling - 11/07 @ NWMS

The youth wrestling season kicked off Saturday with the annual Salute to the Veteran tournament hosted by the Whidbey Wildcat Wrestling Club at North Whidbey Middle School.

19 clubs from as far away as Yakima and Ellensburg traveled to Oak Harbor for the tournament. The Wildcat club finished in 2nd place overall with 14 points, just 1 point shy of winner Team Scorpion.

The Wildcats entered 34 wrestlers and 6 won first place in their division, 5 were in 2nd place and 6 in 3rd place.

A good job for the first tournament of the season.
