Last Saturday, over 250 participants turned out to help the Coupeville HS class of 2013 earn some money by running in the Race the Reserve.

The top female finisher in the half marathon was Christen McCool (5th overall) from Portage with a time of 1:32:14.  The next two females were Sara Callor of Ft. Collins and Erin Lietzan from Anacortes.

In the 10k race it was Brian Comer from Sammamish with a time of 42:52, followed by Richard Carmichael of North Bend and Dan McCone from Seattle. Lilliana Stelling of Langley was the first female and 3rd overall with a time of 47:37.  Following here were Katie Sexton from Woodinville and McKenzie Schneider from Oak Harbor.

Coupeville's own Greg Maher, at 51 years of age, won the 5k race, posting a time of 19:47.  He was followed by 44-year-old Steven Duncan from Mt. Vernon and Clifton Hashimoto from Kaneohe, Hawaii.  In the woman's 5k it was Abby Reed from Mechanicsburg, PA (3rd overall), Sara Sherman from Coupeville and Tizzy Asher from Seattle.

NWLL - Final set of photos

Below are the final sets of photos for this years' Little League games.  Unfortunately, due to the incredible amount of canceled games due to rain and out-of-town teams not showing up, we were unable to get any photos of the River Cats minor softball team.

There are, however, photos of every other team, from Minor Softball to Senior Baseball.

All of Little League baseball and softball photos can be found be clicking HERE.

State Track 2012

The results are in, and Oak Harbor was able to place one competitor on the podium.  Josh Schrum ran the 1600m run in 4:21, good enough to finish 8th in State.

Josiah Miller finished in 11th place in both the 100 and 200m dash, Matt Reith was 12th in the 3200, teammate John Rodeheffer was 16th, and Cody Hernkind was 14th in the long jump.

Christina Wicker was 16th in the 400m dash, Dominique Jackson 14th in the discus, and the girls 4x200m relay team (Sierra Seabolt, Christina Alexander, Maura McKole, Jessica Hollins) finished in 16th place.

Rodeheffer was one of only 4 male freshmen at the state meet and the only freshman in the 3200m run and Reith set a new PR in the race at 9:37.

Down in Coupeville, senior Mitch Pelroy competed in 3 events and place in one at the state 1A meet in eastern Washington.

He was 15th in the 100m dash, 8th in the 200m dash and 10th in the 300m hurdles.

Teammate Larry Hurlburt was 11th in the 400m dash.

No Coupeville ladies were at the state meet this year.

NWLL 2012-05-21 Senior As vs Pirates

Braving some really nasty weather, the Senior A's were able to sneak a game in between storms on Monday evening.

There was some doubt if the game would go on due to an earlier heavy rain, but the rain stopped and the field playable before the scheduled start time of 6pm.

Unfortunately, the local As team just couldn't find much offense and the visiting Pirates from Mt. Vernon were able to win their 2nd in a row against OH teams.

Pictures from the game are posted HERE.

Boys Golf update

On Thursday, May 10th, the Oak Harbor boys golf team hosted the WESCO 3A league tournament at the Whidbey Golf & Country Club.

Unfortunately, the Wildcats did not have a good day on the course, finishing 8th out of 9 teams with a combined score of 491.  First place Everett scored 425.

On top for the Wildcats was senior Elias Whitefoot with a 91.  Right behind him was Caleb Knaack with a 92 and Hunter Adams at 94.  Jake Nelson finished with 101, Steven Timm with 113 and Raiden Poe at 116.

Four days later, the top 4 from the league meet competed at the Legion Golf Course in Everett for a chance to go to State.  Again, it wasn't our best day on the course and all four missed the first-day cut of 90.  Knaack shot a 92 to lead the 'Cats, Adams shot 93, Whitefoot 94 and Nelson 98.

Photos from the League meet are posted HERE.

Track 2012-05-11 League Championships at Shoreline Stadium

This year the WESCO 3A league championship meet was held at Shoreline Stadium, and for the first time in 20 years an Oak Harbor team finished #1.

With only two individual champions, the OH boys track team used depth - placing 25 competitors in the top 8 - to capture the WESCO 3A crown.

On Wednesday, senior Josh Schrum cut nearly 13 seconds off his previous best in the 1600m run, finishing first in a time of 4:20.84.  Josh went on to set another PR in the 800m run on Friday, finishing 3rd in 1:57.52.

Senior Matt Reith ran the 3200m race on Friday and ran a very strategic race.  He bided his time, hanging back until about halfway through the race, then with 3 laps to go took the lead and built on it to the end,  finishing with a 9 second lead.  His time was a PR 9:41.58

Sprinter Josiah Miller, running injured, finished 2nd in both the 100 and 200m dash, but qualified for the District Meet.  Other top 3 boys finishers were Dejon Devroe, 3rd in the 400, Chris Hailer 3rd in the high jump and Miller 3rd in the triple jump.  The boys 4x400 relay team finished in 3rd place.

The boys team amassed 135 points.  GP, in second, had 116 and Shorecrest 115.

The girls meet was won by Glacier Peak.  The Grizzlies totalled 204 points behind a string of victories by their distance runners. Shorecrest was 2nd with 143 points and Oak Harbor was 5th with 99 points.

This year, the girls team had no event champions, but put 21 girls into the top 8.  The team produced four 2nd place finishers: Maura McKole in the 200m dash, Christina Wicker in the 400m dash, Raeanna Wynne in the 100m hurdles and the 4x200 relay team.

In field events, Dominique Jackson finished 3rd in the shot put to round out the top 3 finishers for the girls.

Wednesday and Friday of this week, May 16th and 18th, OHHS is hosting the District 1 track meet, with the top 2 finishers in the running events moving on to the state meet.

NWLL for the week ending 5/5/12

Headache.  That's the best way to describe this week as NWLL officials scrambled to try to make fields playable and reschedule games that were rained out.  Coaches are getting headaches trying to manage pitchers, since Little League rules are very strict on the amount of pitches a player can throw and the rest period between outings.

Even with all that, we were able to get to 11 games this week, including 2 on Friday and 5 on Saturday, including 3 softball games.

Boys Soccer 2012-05-02 vs Everett

Senior Night.  In most team sports it brings thoughts of 4-5 seniors and their parents stepping onto the field to be recognized by teammates and spectators.

Even though last Wednesday was the final some soccer game of the season, it's wasn't senior night.  Instead, it was Vance Night.  With only one senior this year, Vance Freitas went onto the field with his parents and received a round of applause.

Then, in the final minute of overtime, in his final game in a Wildcat uniform, Vance made it his night by kicking in the winning goal as the Wildcats defeated the visiting Everett Seagulls 2-1.

Even though the Wildcats finished with a 3-12 record, the last-minute win in the final game made the season a success.

Not only did the varsity win, but the JV won by an identical 2-1 score, giving the Wildcats their first double-win of the season.

Photos from both games are posted HERE.

Girls Tennis 2012-05-02 JV vs Lynnwood

The Oak Harbor JV girls tennis team has been having a decent year.  Entering Wednesday's match sporting a 9-2 record, they looked to notch another win against visiting Lynnwood, but the Royals had other ideas.

After a few tiebreakers in various matches, Lynnwood was able to pull out a 4-3 win.

The JV team finished their season with a trip to Glacier Peak on Monday.

Photos from Wednesday's match, which include pictures of every single JV player that took to the court, are posted HERE.

Baseball 2012-05-01 varsity vs Glacier Peak

They did it.

Needing to win this one game against Glacier Peak to make it into the playoffs, our boys came up with an 8-2 win to go to the postseason.

The Wildcats dominated throughout the game, leading 7-0 in the fourth.

Jack Richter was on the mound and went the distance.

The team was supposed to open the playoffs on Saturday with a trip to Meadowdale, but one of the tournament games was rained out, so all the games were postponed.  The Wildcats now travel to Meadowdale on Monday.

Eagle Run 2012-04-28

If you weren't at Windjammer Park Saturday morning at 8am, you missed the 2012 Eagle Run put on by the Oak Harbor Christian School.

Photos from the 1-mile race, generally in finish order, are posted HERE.

Complete 1-mile results are HERE.

In the 5k race, local runner Andrew Wyman was again the winner, finishing in a time of 16:52.93.  The first under-14 male was Logan Clark who finished 3rd overall with a time of 18:35.95.

Twelve year old Laura Rodeheffer was first female to cross the line, in 6th place overall with a time of 19:59.

GBB 2012-04-16 Spring League

With a team made up primarily of 8th graders and freshmen, the Oak Harbor girls basketball team is struggling in the varsity division of the Skagit Parks and Rec spring league.

Monday night the girls had a late game, starting at 8:15pm. Since the game was so late, a number of players weren't at the game. In fact, only 5 players total were at the game.

The girls that were there played hard against a fast Ferndale team, and although the Wildcats lost 44-11, they played one of their better games offensively.

Photos from the game are posted HERE.
