As has been rumored for some time and confirmed by the Seattle Times today, the WESCO league as split off the 3A schools, placing them in their own division. This starts with the next football season.
Long-time rival Cascade will be moving to the Wesco South while Arlington stays in the north, but as a 4A team.
Here are the breakdowns:
WESCO 4A North WESCO 4A South WESCO 3A
Oak Harbor Cascade Everett
Stanwood Mariner Glacier Peak (new Snohomish school)
Arlington Kamiak Meadowdale
Marysville Jackson Lynnwood
Lake Stevens Edmonds-Woodway Shorecrest
Snohomish Shorewood
Monroe Mountlake Terrace
As it stands now, this format is only for football. All other sports will remain the same. Also, reports say that this organization will only be until 2010. One reason is that Glacier Peak will likely be 4A by then, and Marysville should have a second high school open.
