Girls Tennis - Week of March 11-15

It would be great to say that the Oak Harbor girls tennis team kicked off the season with a big win, but it didn't happen Thursday afternoon.

At OHHS, the JV girls fell to visiting Burlington 6-1, with freshman Anna Belle Whitefoot picking up the lone victory in a marathon 4-6, 7-6(8-6), 10-5 win.

On Friday, the JV team evened their record by beating Arlington 5-2.  Whitefoot won again at 1st singles, this time in straight sets, 6-3, 6-3.  Also winning in single play were Jessica Ganswig (6-1, 6-4) and Erina Horikawa (6-0, 6-2).  In doubles play, 1st doubles Ria Bains and Ellysa Boganay won 7-5, 6-7(7-9), 10-4 and 3rd doubles Julia Smith and Olivia Farrell won 6-3, 6-4.

The varsity team played against Burlington as well, but due to the weather played at the Skagit Valley College covered courts and were working against a hard time deadline, so the girls played a single 8-game pro set.

The only OH winner was the 3rd doubles team of Brittany Rigby and Cat Amsler, who won 8-5.

Friday against Arlington the varsity squad picked up two wins, but lost the match 5-2.  McKenzie Perry won at 2nd doubles 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(5), and Rigby and Amsler won at 3rd doubles 6-2, 6-2.

Oak Harbor won two exhibition doubles matches. The team of McKinley Kellogg and Dallas Breilein won 6-1, 6-4 and Mollie Briddell and Hannah Gluth won 8-6.

Weather cooperating, the girls will play twice next week.  Tuesday the 19th the JV travels to Marysville Getchell while the Varsity hosts the Chargers, and on Thursday the Varsity goes to Everett and JV is at home against the same school.
