Wrestling 2011-01-13 vs Everett and more

After a long Christmas break, the OH wrestling team resumed their league meets with a dual meet vs Everett at OHHS. Both Everett and the Wildcats were undefeated in league meets at the start.

In JV action the Wildcats were able to won only 5 of the 14 matches, but most were exciting with some matches being decided in the final seconds. Cosper and Jensen both won over Everett's Ah-Humada by pin. Cosper got him with only 23 seconds left in the match while Jensen pinned him in the 1st round. Tarrant also won by pin. King won 14-0 and Dedobbelaere 14-7.

Oak Harbor got off to a decent start in varsity matches, with Jahleel Vester winning 15-3 over Palabrica. Fakkema fell 21-7 but Ben Pralle, back from a badly broken finger, won 4-0 to give OH a 7-4 lead. It didn't last long as OH lost the next 4 matches. The next OH win was Stratton needing just 41 seconds for his pin. Everett won another 4 straight to take a commanding lead and seal the win. Late in the meet, Vail, on the mat for the first time this season, pinned his opponent in 1:14 and Trimbur won by forfeit.

The final score was Everett 47, Oak Harbor 25.

That wasn't the only wrestling the Wildcats did this past week. Friday they traveled to Highline High School for a meet against Highline and Hazen and Saturday were at a tournament at Mercer Island.

At Highline, our boys picked up two win, defeating Hazen 58-24 and Highline 46-31.

In the Hazen meet, winners were Trimbur, Vester, Fakkema, Pralle, Payne, Stratton, Crebbin, Souza, Everett and Vail. the Trimbur, Fakkema, Pralle, Crebbin, Souza and Everett wins were by pin. Payne, Stratton and Vail picked up forfeits. Vester won 13-1.

The going was harder against Highline, with 8 Wildcats picking up victories. Trimbur, Payne, Stratton, Crebbin, Souza and Alonzo all won by pin. Fakkema got a forfeit and Vail won 14-5.

The Mercer Island results aren't available.

Next for the Wildcats is a home meet Thursday against Everett then an away dual at Meadowdale on Friday. The regular season ends next Thursday, the 27th with Senior Night against Lynnwood at OHHS.
