Monday night the Coupeville Wolves girls basketball team hosted the Sultan Turks. The Wolves' varsity squad came into the game with a 0-6 conference record and the Turks were at 1-4. On the JV side Coupeville was 0-5 and Sultan 4-5
The JV team, behind 4 points each by Bree Messner and Madi Strasburg jumped to a 12-6 first-quarter lead and held off a Turk comeback to lead 16-11 at the half. Dismal shooting in the 3rd doomed the Wolves as Sultan went on a 12-3 run to regain the lead 23-19 and held on to win 34-26. Messner led the team with 10 points, Strasburg and Amanda Fabrizi finished with 4 each, and Kacie Kiel, Camilla Rische, Katie Kiel and Monica Vidoni each scored 2.
In varsity action, Coupeville played well, leading 9-8 in the first and down only 4, 19-15 at the half after a last-second shot by Sultan went in. Coupeville went cold in the 3rd, scoring only 5 points while allowing 17, but started chipping away at the Sultan lead in the 4th. The Coupeville girls scored 21 4th quarter points, but fell 4 points short as Sultan won 45-41. Jai' Lysa Hoskins scored 12 for the Wolves, Cassidi Rosenkrance 9, Katie Smith and Haley Marx 6 each, Lauren Escalle 3, Taya Boonstra and Bessie Walstad 2 each and Haley Hammer 1.
