Thursday afternoon was the perfect day for an outdoor track meet. Of course, that statement is full of sarcasm. The track meet was cold, rainy, windy and miserable.
That didn't stop a number of Wildcats from excelling in both running and field events.
Oak Harbor girls won a total of six events: Christina Alexander in the 200m dash, Christina Wicker in the 400m dash, Raeanna Wynne in both the 100 and 300m hurdles, the girls 4x200m relay (Irysh Concepcion, Kelsey Johnson, Molly Nordquist and Lizzy Chase) and Dominique Jackson in the discus.
In addition, other top 3 finishers were Hollins, finishing 2nd in the 100m dash, Wicker 3rd in the 800m run and Alex Laiblin was 2nd in the 1600 and 3rd in the 3200m run. Sierra Seabolt, Dejsha Lollar, Christina Alexander and Jessica Hollins teamed up to finish 2nd in the 4x100 relay while Laiblin, Hollins, Wicker and Hannah Bressler were 3rd in the 4x400m relay.
In field events, Jackson was 3rd in the shot put and Ciera Wiser 2nd in javelin.
The boys won 8 events, capturing all but one of the straight running events and all of the distance events. Winners were: Cody Hernkind in the 100m dash, Josiah Miller in the 200, Josh Schrum in the 800, Matt Reith in the 1600 and John Rodeheffer in the 3200. It was a very close finish in the 2-mile, with Rodeheffer passing Reith in the final 50 meters to win the race.
Carlton Johnson, Hernkind, Sheyenne Sams and Miller won the 4x100m relay, Dayne Herron got the shot put and Josh McVey the pole vault.
Other top 3 finishers were Chris Opdyke 3rd in the 300m dash, Cody Sanders 2nd in the 100m hurdles, Patrick Mayer 2nd in the 300m hurles, and the boys 4x400 meter relay (3rd). That relay team consisted of Dejon Devroe, Chris Opdyke, Connor Meyer and Miller.
Top 3 finishers in field events were Keon Crumpton - 2nd in discus, Hernkind 2nd in long jump, Chris Hailer 2nd in high jump and Miller 2nd in triple jump.
