Youth Basketball - 2012 Tulip Tournament

The Annual Skagit County youth basketball Tulip Tournament went on this year as usual, but even bigger than before. Between the boys and girls there were a total of 128 team covering 4 grade levels from as far away as Tacoma. Because of the high number of teams, the tournament covered 3 days and was played at 13 different venues from Sedro Woolley to Anacortes.

This year, Oak Harbor entered only a single girls team, made up of players from 5th through 8th grade. After discussion with the tournament director, the decision was made to place the team in the 7th grade division.

The girls won their opening game Friday evening at La Conner Middle School, then took on Orcas at Fidalgo Elementary in Anacortes. The Catz had a 19-12 halftime lead, but came out cold on offense to start the 2nd half, but cranked up the heat late in the game to win 37-22 to head to a quarterfinal game at Burlington-Edison HS.

At BEHS, the Catz took on the Blaine Fury, and after playing catchup early in the game, were able to take a 15-10 lead at halftime. After the half the OH girls pulled away to win 32-25.

In the semi-final game on Sunday, the Catz lost, then lost the game for 3rd, and wound up finishing in 6th place out of 15 teams.

None of the teams won their Friday games.
