Wrestling 2013-01-17 vs Stanwood

The day after the boys and girls basketball teams had mixed results going up against powerful Stanwood teams, the OH wrestling team hosted the 13th ranked and undefeated Spartans.

In JV action, Oak Harbor won 8 of 19 contested matches, 7 of them by pinfall.  JV winners were Alexia Mobley (1:16), Austin Figueroa (3:15), Sebastian Ceasar (0:41), Kekai Tarrant (8-3), Matt Zafra (3:55), Kenny King (0:46), Nina Manning (1:40) and Blake Pein-Neal (3:58).

The draw before the varsity match put all the matches in weight order, starting with 106 lbs and ending with the heavyweights at 285.

The Varsity match started on a good note, with Christian Bertram earning a fall in just 30 seconds.  OH lost the next two matches but got back on the winning track with a 3rd period pin by Jeremy Vester. Cody Fakkema won 10-1, then Jahleel Vester defeated #12 ranked Nathaniel Zinkard 9-2 to give OH a 19-12 lead.  Jacob Fitzgerald earned a pin in the 3rd to improve the score to 25-12.  The two teams then traded wins, with Stanwood getting 3 pins against 2 OH pins to make the score 37-36 with one match left - Jackson Constant against #12 ranked Josh Smith.  Jackson got in trouble early and was on his back with the ref counting off near-fall points, but recovered, reversed his opponent and with just 22 seconds left in the 1st round, the ref called a pin and held Jackson's hand high in the air, giving Oak Harbor a 43-36 victory.
