FB 2012-10-12 at Getchell

The Wildcat varsity football team guaranteed themselves a playoff spot and set up a big showdown for next Friday night be beating the Marysville Getchell Chargers last Friday at Quil Ceda stadium 28-14.

Early on, the game looked like it would be a blowout, repeating last year's game, as Dakota Sinchak opened the scoring on a 13 yard run then Sheyenne Sams caught an Ian Kolste pass and went 75 yards to make it 14-0 in the first quarter.

Later in the second it was Sams again, this time on a 50-yard run to boost the Wildcats to 21-0.

Getchell got on the board late in the first half, scoring on a 21-yard pass to make it 21-7 with less than a minute to go.

Oak Harbor responded by driving down to the Getchell 36.  What appeared to be a touchdown catch by Jojo Webster was waved off by the officials and Oak Harbor went into the locker room leading 21-7.

OH got a break on the Chargers' first possession, when the punter mishandled the snap and the Wildcats got the ball on the Getchell 28.  Five plays later it was Sams again, this time from one yard out.  With 8:33 left in the 3rd it was now 28-7 for OH.

The two teams traded fumbles in what was left of the 3rd quarter, and OH maintained a 28-7 lead starting the 4th.

In the 4th, the normally potent Wildcat offense sputtered a bit, punting on two consecutive possessions.  Getchell took the second punt and drive 50 yards in 7 plays to cut the OH lead to 28-14 with 4:42 left.

The 'Cats recovered the onside kick, and after making a pair of first downs, Kolste was able to take a couple of knees to end the game with OH winning 28-14.
