Wrestling vs Marysville - 1-13-2009

The wrestling JV team didn’t fare well against Marysville last Tuesday at home, winning only two of the 10 bouts. Gabe Dye was one of the winners, and started his scoring with a hard takedown of Cynker, and was leading 14-8 when Gabe was able to finally pin his man in 5:16. The other winner was Hunter Vail, who pinned Hagen in 4:45. Ben Pralle, Josh Schrum, and Jaron Strickland each got to wrestle twice against Marysville opponents, while Justin Everett and Josh McVey wrestled once each. Also in JV action, there were two exhibition matches featuring two Oak Harbor wrestlers facing each other. In the first, Tucker Lundstrom was fully in control, defeating Nick Farrell 14-2, and in the other match, Jesse Tucker scored an escape right at the buzzer to take a hard-fought 3-2 win over Collin Higinbotham.

Royce Cardwell started things off with a bang in the varsity portion of the meet, scoring a 15-0 technical fall over Belvins, then Connar Zimmerman scored an 11-0 major decision over Zaborowski to give OH an early 9-0 lead. Josh Barton was next at 130 lbs, and although he lost, it was only a decision, leaving OH in the lead 9-3. The Wildcats then scored 3 straight wins, with Brandon Stratton pinning Shumaker in 2:24, John Tuttle pinning Wallace in 3:01, and Ben Page getting a 12-2 major decision over Haughian. Unfortunately, Marysville got a close 4-2 win over Jarred Tyson, then recorded 5 straight pins to take the lead. Corey Trimbur kept it close with a pin over Cardona in 1:39, but Brandon Strickland, who weighs in at about 99 pounds, moved up to fill the 112-pound class and got pinned to give Marysville a 36-25 team win.
