BBB 2010-01-05 vs Arlington

The OHHS boys basketball team started the new year with a game at home against Arlington.

In the dome, the Freshman team had a hard time, losing 55-33. Dayne Herron led the team in scoring with 10 points. Michael LaBelle and Ian Kolste scored 5 each, Anthony Stewart and Jackson Knoll 4 each, Chris Hailer and Kiefer Hermann 2 each. Taite Hausemann scored 1 point. On the plus side, Knoll and Kolste were both perfect from the free throw line, with Knoll hitting 4-4 and Kolste 5-5.

Arlington led throughout the JV game, but it wasn’t a blowout. The boys were slow to get started, getting on the board with a free throw with 3 minutes left in the 1st period and didn’t score a field goal until the 2:38 mark. Even though, it was only 7-5 for Arlington at the end of the first. The second period was a different story with Arlington building a 12-point lead and going into the half ahead 26-14. The Wildcats were able to cut into the lead in the 2nd half, but not enough as the Eagles won 44-36. Kevawn Brooks was the scoring leader with 13 and Trace Paul added 7. Corey Houck scored 5, Connor Paul 4 and David Tillotson 3 while Matt Burgoyne and Cameron Faulkner had 2 each.

The Wildcats played a decent first quarter, leading 8-4 halfway through the period. Arlington came back to take a 1-point, 11-10 lead at the buzzer. As the teams got warm, scoring increased. OH hit for 13 points in the 2nd but allowed the Eagles to score 20, including a pair of 3-pointers and Arlington led 31-23 at halftime. The two teams played even in the 3rd as Arlington took a 43-36 lead into the 4th. The final period was marked by a lot of free throws, with the two teams taking a total of 13 trips to the line. Oak Harbor was able to cut the Arlington lead to just 5 points, 47-42, halfway through the period but Arlington was sharp at the line at the end of the game and won 60-50. Mike Washington, Jr. scored 22 to lead the Cats, Aaron Boesch and Colby Anter had 7 each, Jay Stout 6, and Connor Paul, Rashaad Smith and Ryan Fakkema scored 2 each.
