Track 2012-05-11 League Championships at Shoreline Stadium

This year the WESCO 3A league championship meet was held at Shoreline Stadium, and for the first time in 20 years an Oak Harbor team finished #1.

With only two individual champions, the OH boys track team used depth - placing 25 competitors in the top 8 - to capture the WESCO 3A crown.

On Wednesday, senior Josh Schrum cut nearly 13 seconds off his previous best in the 1600m run, finishing first in a time of 4:20.84.  Josh went on to set another PR in the 800m run on Friday, finishing 3rd in 1:57.52.

Senior Matt Reith ran the 3200m race on Friday and ran a very strategic race.  He bided his time, hanging back until about halfway through the race, then with 3 laps to go took the lead and built on it to the end,  finishing with a 9 second lead.  His time was a PR 9:41.58

Sprinter Josiah Miller, running injured, finished 2nd in both the 100 and 200m dash, but qualified for the District Meet.  Other top 3 boys finishers were Dejon Devroe, 3rd in the 400, Chris Hailer 3rd in the high jump and Miller 3rd in the triple jump.  The boys 4x400 relay team finished in 3rd place.

The boys team amassed 135 points.  GP, in second, had 116 and Shorecrest 115.

The girls meet was won by Glacier Peak.  The Grizzlies totalled 204 points behind a string of victories by their distance runners. Shorecrest was 2nd with 143 points and Oak Harbor was 5th with 99 points.

This year, the girls team had no event champions, but put 21 girls into the top 8.  The team produced four 2nd place finishers: Maura McKole in the 200m dash, Christina Wicker in the 400m dash, Raeanna Wynne in the 100m hurdles and the 4x200 relay team.

In field events, Dominique Jackson finished 3rd in the shot put to round out the top 3 finishers for the girls.

Wednesday and Friday of this week, May 16th and 18th, OHHS is hosting the District 1 track meet, with the top 2 finishers in the running events moving on to the state meet.
