Boys Tennis update - 2014-09-27

It's been a busy couple of weeks for the Wildcat boys tennis team.

Dodging rain showers, the varsity squad was able to get in 4 matches.

At Arlington on 9-18, the 'Cats picked up wins at 1st and 2nd singles (Jackson Wezeman and Carter Saar), but the rest of the match belonged to the Eagles, who won 5-2.

The next day, vs Getchell, Oak Harbor split the singles matches, with Saar and Tom Dale (3rd singles) both winning in straight sets, then a sweep of the doubles play gave OH a 5-2 win over MG in a match rescheduled from earlier in the week due to rain.

Saar won 6-1, 6-0 while Dale was a 6-0, 6-1 winner.  In doubles, it was 1st team Raymond Paraiso and Jared Alano-Gray winning 6-3, 6-1, 2nd doubles Max Van Dam and partner Nathan Maagdalera won 4-6, 6-2, 6-0 and at 3rd it was Matthew Hallahan and Calib Byers winning 6-2, 6-3.

On September 24th, the Wildcats hosted tennis powerhouse Stanwood and lost 7-0.  Carter Saar took his opponent to 3 sets before falling 2-6, 6-3, 6-2, and Tom Dale played a marathon match before falling 6-3, 5-7, (10-8).

Thursday the team traveled to Pilchuck and picked up another win, 6-1 over the host Tomahawks.  Wezeman won 6-0, 6-1, Dale lost in 3 sets, 0-6, 6-3, 5-7, Kyle Martin, at the 3rd singles spot for the day, won 6-2, 6-1 and Paraiso, playing singles, won 6-0, 7-6(5).

In doubles, Hunt/Byers won 6-3, 6-2, Alexander Smith and Alano-Gray won 6-2, 6-3, and Hallahan and Van Dam won 6-3, 6-0.

In JV action on September 17th, the 'Cats fell 5-2 to Getchell, with 1st singles Brandon Thomas wining 6-1, 6-1 and 1st doubles Sid Thomas and Kevin Brackeen winning 6-3, 6-1.

The next day, the JV boys nipped Arlington 4-3, with Cortez winning 7-5, 6-3, Rheeno Kwak winning 6-0, 6-1, Sid Thomas, at 4th singles, win 6-4, 6-2.

Finally, on September 24th, the JV squad took two from Stanwood, with TJ Cortez winning 6-3, 6-3 at 1st singles and Andy Snyder winning 6-4, 6-3 at 3rd singles.  At 4th singles, Kwak went deep into the 3rd set before falling 1-6, 6-4, 7-10.

At doubles, the 3rd team of JD Cabiting and Cullen Wood won 6-2, 3-6, 10-6.

Varsity has just 3 more home matches:  Tuesday the 30th vs Everett, Oct 7th vs Arlington and Oct 13th vs Pilchuck.

JV is at home on Oct 2nd vs Getchell, Oct 9th vs Stanwood and Oct 15th vs Everett.
