Track 2015-05-22 - District 1 Championships
At Shoreline Stadium for the 2-day District 1 tournament, the Oak Harbor Wildcats turned in some impressive performances, including breaking two school records, one a 50 year-old mark.
John Rodeheffer broke his own 2-year old 3200 mark, but a lot. Two years ago at the state meet he posted a time of 9:20.19. At this years District meet he smashed that time with a 9:06.85.
Dejon Devroe, moving from the 400m dash to the 800m run, got 2nd place in the District (and a trip to State), and in doing so set a new record of 1:53.53. The old record was set in 1964, and was the longest standing OH record. The old record in the 880 yard run, converted to 800 meters, was 1:54.
Rodeheffer also won the 1600m run, and Devroe will also run in 2 events, the 800 and the 4x100m relay.
Hayley Lundstrom earned 3rd in the high jump and will join the girls 4x100m relay team (Janae Payne, Amaya Rittierodt, Jenna Cooley and Matti Miesle) at the State Meet at Mt. Tahoma High School in Tacoma this weekend. Claire Anderson is an alternate in the triple jump and Alana Austin in the 200m dash.
Joining Devroe in the 4x400 relay event will be Mac Nuanez, Sebastian Ceaser and Jared Gray.

Girls tennis 2015-05-20 - District 1 tournament
AnnaBelle Whitefoot started the Wesco 3A North tournament seeded 9th, then qualified for the District tournament by placing 3rd.
At the District tournament at Arlington HS, she started with a 6-4, 6-0 loss, but came back to win 3-6, 6-0, 6-1, then beast the North's #2 seed 7-6(5), 6-2 in one of AnnaBelle's now patented marathon matches (this one lasted 2 1/2 hours).
That win put Whitefoot in the final win-and-go-to-state match, but used a lot of energy in the previous match and fell 6-2, 6-4, finishing 4th, and will go to the state tournament as an alternate.

Middle School Track 2015-05-19 - Championships at OHHS
Tuesday afternoon, the North West Middle School League track teams met at OHHS for their finals.
The 8th grade boys and 7th grade girls were first in team standings, the 7th grade boys 3rd and 8th grade girls 4th.
The 8th grade boys had only 2 event winners, Nathan Merrill in the javelin and Haven Brown in the long jump, but a bunch of placer pushed the point total high enough for the team championship.
For the 7th grade boys, Tyrell Torres was the lone individual champion, winning the javelin.
On the girls side, Mikhaela Cortes won the 7th grade 400m dash, Jenny Danielson the the 7th grade 1600m run, Cami Bristow the 8th grade javelin, and the 7th grade girls won both the 4x200 and 4x100 relay races.

The tournament would have continued yesterday, but rain pushed second-day action to Thursday.
In 2nd day action, Perry developed an illness and lost her first match 6-1, 6-3 the defaulted to teammate Whitefoot and was eliminated.
Due to the default, Whitefoot finished 3rd and moves on to the District tournament.
The top four singles and doubles players play next at Arlington HS for the 3A District tournament on May 19-20.

Softball 2015-05-12 vs Getchell
In their final game of the 2015 campaign, the OH girls saved the best for last.
In the varsity game, Oak Harbor spotted the visiting Chargers a 7-1 lead, then had a seemingly perfect 3rd inning, pushing 11 runs across the plate to take a 12-7 lead.
As the game continued, Getchell started to chip away at the lead until the score stood at 14-12 in favor of Oak Harbor starting the final inning.
The Wildcats used excellent defense in the top of the inning, with 1st baseman Taylor Heidt catching a foul ball for the final out.
Over at Hillcrest, hot bats created another high-scoring affair, with OH winning 10-8 to end the season.

So close! Monday the Wildcat traveled to Marysville for their final away game of the year, and they didn't want it to end.
Oak Harbor took the game into extra innings, then, in the bottom of the 9th, with bases loaded, the MP batter hit the pitch just right for a walkoff grand slam to win 14-10.
In JV action, MP won 16-5.

Track 2015-05-08 at Stanwood
Friday evening the Wildcat track team wrapped up their regular season with a trip to the Stanwood Invite.
4A Lake Stevens won both the girls and boys team scoring, while OH got 2nd in both, edging out host Stanwood.
In a different move, speedy Dejon Devroe did not run the 400m dash, but instead ran in the 800m. It didn't matter, as the result was the same - another Devroe victory. Dejon crossed the finish line nearly 5 seconds ahead of the 2nd placer runner in the 2-lap race.
In another non-surprising finish, OH senior Jonalynn Horn won the 3200m run.
That, and Devroe's 800m run victory were the only OH winners. It was the Oak Harbor depth that carried the day, with forty OH athletes placing in the top 5 in the 17 boys and 18 girls events.
Full results are at athletic.net
Next for the tracksters is the Wesco 3A North Championships, a 2-day event that takes place on Wednesday and Friday, the 13th and 15th of May.
Following that, the teams head to Shoreline Stadium for the NW District 1 Championships, which includes Wesco 3A North and South, plus Ferndale.

Baseball 2015-05-09 - playoff vs Meadowdale
Oak Harbor kicked off the 2015 post season against the Wesco South 3rd place team, Meadowdale, in a game Saturday at OHHS.
Meadowdale jumped to a 4-0 lead, but the Wildcats came back in the 6th with two of their own, but in the top of the 7th, the Mavericks exploded with 9 runs to leave with a 13-2 win.
The 'Cats aren't out. They play the loser of the other 1st-round game, Arlington, at home Monday. Just a week ago the Wildcats took 2 of 3 from the Eagle.
Once they defeat the Eagles, OH will remain at home, taking on the loser of the Pilchuck/Lynnwood game on May 15th.
Win that game and the 'Cats will travel to Everett Memorial Stadium on May 16th for a chance at a 3rd place finish and an opportunity to continue in the playoffs.
.
Softball 2015-05-08 vs Arlington
The second-place Arlington Eagles swooped into town Friday afternoon, bringing both their varsity and JV squads, then took off with a split in the games.
Over at Hillcrest, the Oak Harbor JV girls had a strong game, 10-running the visitors 15-5. Monday the team traveled to Pilchuck and the results was nearly identical - OH won 16-5.
There is one game left, today at 4pm against Getchell, with the JV at Hillcrest and Varsity next door to the baseball field behind the CTE building.
Photos from the Arlington JV game are posted HERE.
The result wasn't as pretty in the varsity game, as Arlington used their big sticks to knock the Wildcats 12-1.
Monday at MP, the 'Cats went into the bottom of the 9th tied at 10 with their host, but a grand slam home run by Pilchuck ended the game 14-10 in MP's favor.
Today the 'Cats host 2-win Getchell in the final game of the year.
Photos from the Arlington Varsity game are posted HERE.

Boys Soccer 2015-05-04 vs Mountlake Terrace
In the final home game of the regular season, the JV and varsity squads split with the visiting Hawks from Mountlake Terrace.
It was a 4-0 loss for the JV squad with one game to go (on Thursday at Getchell)
The varsity match, however, was about as lopsided for Oak Harbor as it's ever been.
The game started with the annual parent night, the team saying goodbye to four seniors - Jeremy Vester, Dakota Powers, Eduardo Andrade and Taylor Yancey. Their departure at the end of the season will leave some big shoes to fill.
Just over 10 minutes into the game, Dakota Powers kicked in a goal, and 10 minutes later JJ Mitchell made it 2-0.
Five minutes into the 2nd half, JJ got another goal, then 2 minutes later took advantage of a miscue by the Terrace GK to head the ball into the net for a 4-0 lead.
Terrace scored twice late in the game to make the score respectable, but it was all OH from start to finish.
Photos from the Varsity game are posted HERE.

Baseball 2015-05-05

The wins push the Wildcats to 11-4 for the season (13-6 overall) and are the #3 seed in the 3A District tournament starting this Saturday.
Oak Harbor starts the tournament this Saturday with a home game against the #6 seed team (yet to be determined (either Meadowdale or Mountlake Terrace).
After the Wildcats win on Saturday, the 2nd round game will be against the Shorewood/Getchell winner and will be at the Meridian Park Fields in Shoreline on Tuesday the 12th.
In the event the Wildcats fall, their 2nd round game will be at home, against the Getchell/Shorewood loser.
Photos from the home game vs Getchell are posted HERE.
