The Wildcat girls basketball season came to an end Friday in the Marysville gym as they fell 51-46 to the Jackson Timberwolves.
The 1st quarter was tight, but OH was able to hold a 9-7 lead at the first buzzer, thanks to Jessica Denmon's 7 points. Denmon added 4 in the 2nd period, but the team only scored 6 while allowing 14, and giving Jackson a 21-15 halftime lead. Coming out of the half, OH scored 2 quick baskets to close the gap, and the two teams spent most of the rest of the game within 1-2 points of each other. Starting the 4th period, OH held a 1-point lead, 30-29, but late in the game, Jackson was able to hit a couple of key 3-pointers, and with the Wildcats down and the clock becoming an issue, the girls had to foul to stop the clock. Fortunately, Jackson only shot 9 of 20 from the line, giving OH many last chances, but some poor passes and shot attempts that didn't go in sank the remaining hopes for a win.
On the positive side, the team was 12 of 14 from the free throw line, including Jenson's 6-6 and Tubo's 4-4. Also, there are some talented sophomores and juniors that will be back next year, so the team should be competitive.
Denmon finished with 18 and Jansen with 14. Cheyenne Tubo had a field goal in addition to her 4 free throws for a total of 6 points in her final game. Cori Henricksen scored 4 along with Clarissa Abadesco to round out the Wildcat scoring.
