Boys basketball, for a change

The boys basketball team played a tournament in Gig Harbor last weekend, and this is what Coach Washington had to say about it:

This past Sunday saw the varsity boys playing in a tourney in Gig Harbor, without Jay Stout and Aaron Boesch. It was a pleasure though, having Rashaad Smith back. The first game saw us losing 40 to 30 to a much bigger and stronger Gig Harbor team. We did not play very well but we hung around until the end. The next game saw us matched up against Lincoln. The game was a defensive battle and Lincoln ended up winning 23 to 19. The last game of the day saw us being matched up against Curtis, a team that was in the state playoffs last year. Curtis started out very strong but we went to a 2-3 zone and contained their bigger, more athletic players. We were down by 4 with 2 minutes to play but they ended up winning 40 to 32. Overall I was please with the defensive play but would have liked to see more chemistry offensively. Rashaad defended, blocked shots and rebounded very well. The Varsity is 7 and 7 overall this summer. The varsity will conclude the summer on July 19th at a tourney at Evergreen State College.
