BBB 2010-12-21 vs Mountlake Terrace

After the Freshman and JV games, it didn't look like it would be a good night for Oak Harbor boys basketball. The JV team played a decent first half, down by just 9 points at the break, but the Hawks came out on fire in the 2nd half, scoring 46 points while holding the Wildcats to just 15 points. The final in that game was 75-35 in favor of MLT. Anfernee Angkaw scored 9 point to lead the team and Paul Johannsen and Corey Houck had 6 each. Kiefer Hermann and Michael LaBelle scored 4 each while Devontay Sutalo, Jackson Knoll and Forrest Brown had 2 each. On the bright side, the team did well at the free throw line, hitting 13 of 18 attempts.

The freshman game was similar, with MLT holding a 33-17 halftime lead and extending it to 78-33 by the end of the game. Zach Gibbs scored 15 for the Wildcats, Chavez Madden 5, Isaiah Rennes 4, Andrae Gray and Casiano Atienza 2.

Mike Washington, Jr. scored 8 of the team's 13 first-period points and trailed 13-17 at the first horn and in the 2nd period, Stevie Bratt scored all but 2 of the team's 11 points and MLT led 36-24 at halftime.

Coming out of the locker room, Oak Harbor started to chip away at the Hawk lead, cutting it to just 5 points, 41-36 after a 3-pointer by Jay Stout at the 4:18 mark. Then, in a 29-second flurry, Mike Washington grabbed a rebound tipped by Bratt for two at the 3:41 mark, got a steal and drained a 3-pointer at 3:33, then got a pass after another Wildcat steal and hit another three at 3:12 to put the Wildcats up by 1 point, 44-43 and forcing an MLT timeout. The two teams went back and forth for the remained of the 3rd period which ended in a tie at 47.

Just under a minute into the 4th period, Jay Stout got a bucket and put the Wildcats into the lead for good. The boys built a 9-point lead with 1:22 left but Terrace wasn't out yet. They scored twice in less than a minute to cut the OH lead to 5, but 4 late points by the 'Cats sealed the 69-62 win.

Washington finished on top of the leaderboard with 27 points while Stout was close behind with 21. Bratt also finished in double figures with 14. Denzel Massey hit 4 free throws and Kevawn Brooks finished with 3 points. As a team, our boys scored eight 3-pointers and were 17/24 from the free throw line.

Next for the boys is a 3-day tournament at Bellevue College, then return to league play on January 4th at Meadowdale. Their next home game is January 11th vs Glacier Peak.
