Little League Baseball & Softball 2011-04-07
At the ball fields near the John Vanderzicht Pool, the two Minor Softball teams, the Grasshoppers and Volcanoes, played the first of numerous games. Since there are only two teams in that division the teams will play each other all season long.
On the upper field, the Minor A Knights and Mud Cats played their first game of the season.
In both of these divisions, no scores or other stats are kept, and instead of 3 strikes and you're out, each player, unless they get a hit, gets a fixed number of pitches.
97 photos of the Mud Cats/Knights game are posted HERE.
99 photos of the Volcanoes/Grasshoppers game are HERE.

In that 2nd game, things did not go well early for Oak Harbor, as Terrace jumped to a 4-0 lead. Oak Harbor closed to within a run in the 5th by scoring 3 runs then scored 3 more in the bottom of the 6th to take a 7-6 lead which was enough to win the game.
Today, Friday, the Shorewood Thunderbirds come to town. The T-Birds were picked at the top team in the state in the preseason poll and are currently ranked 3rd in 3A. The Wildcats are ranked 9th in the coaches poll. The winner of the game will take possession of 1st place in WESCO 3A.
