Track 2011-04-14 @ OHHS

Last Thursday, the Wildcat track team hosted the Cascade Bruins and Monroe Bearcats and both the boys' and girls' teams won the day.

The girls dominated by scoring 94.5 points to Cascade's 49 and Monroe's 39.5. Oak Harbor won 9 of 18 events, Monroe 5 and Cascade 4.

The boys tied Cascade in the team point total with 63 and Monroe trailed with 51. Of the 17 boys events, Oak Harbor won 9, Cascade 6 and Monroe 2.

For the boys, Oak Harbor finished 1-2 in the 100 and 200 meter dash, with Josiah Miller beating out teammate Aaron Boesch. Freshman Carlton Johnson finished 5th in both races. Matt Reith was the top Wildcat in the 400m dash, coming in 4th.

In the distance races, Mike Kincy was 2nd in the 800 with freshman Clayton Richardson right behind in 3rd, Wyatt Homola in 4th and Nate Miller in 5th. Josh Schrum was just 3 seconds off a first-place finish in the 1600. Reith and Schrum both ran in the 3200m run, finishing 1-2.

Only one Wildcat finished in the top 5 in the hurdles, and only in the 110m high hurdles. Junior David Payne was 5th and was just .04 seconds off a new personal record.

The Wildcats took the top spots in the 4x100m relay, with the team of Cody Hernkind, Carlton Johnson, Sheyenne Sams and Justin Everett finishing first in 46.62 and the team of Julian Faralan, Jayden Davilla, Ian Sinchak and Cameron Hartley 2nd in 47.66. The Wildcat 4x400m relay team (Johnson, Miller, Boesch and Noel Cheeseboro) finished in 2nd place.

Out in the field, Sophomore Jeremy Foster won the event with a personal best throw of 43-11 - nearly 2 feet further than the 2nd place finisher. Kevawn Brooks was 5th in first attempt at the discus. Brooks was also 3rd in the Javelin.

Oak Harbor won all the jumping events, with Josh McVey tied for first in the pole vault with a height of 10-0, Aaron Boesch taking the long jump with a leap of 19-5 and Josiah Miller the triple jump at 41-7.

Right now, Miller is the top 200m runner and triple jumper in WESCO 3A and is 2nd in the 100m. Boesch is 3rd in the long jump. The 4x100m relay team is 4th, along with Chris Opdyke in the 400 and Josh Schrum in the 800.

The girls had top-3 finishes in all the sprinting events. Christina Alexander was 1st in the 100 and 3rd in the 200. Janessa Ramos was 3rd in the 100 and 2nd in the 200. In the 400, Maura McKole, Jember Jansen, Alex Laiblin and Abby Leete finished 1-2-3-4.

Oak Harbor was missing top distance runner Addy Royal, but her teammates stepped up in the 1600, finishing 1-2-3. Christina Wicker was first, Hannah Bressler 2nd and Taylor VonGrey 3rd. All 3 girls set new personal records in the race. Wicker, Laiblin, Leete and Bressler finished 2-3-4-5 in the 3200m run.

Hurdler Allison Duvenez finished in 2nd in the 100m hurdles but came back to win the 300m hurdles. Teammate Raeanna Wynne was 4th in the 100 and 5th in the 300.

The girls 4x100 relay was in 2nd place - by one-one hundredth of a second and the 4x400 relay had a convincing win. The 4x200 relay was running strong but had a bad handoff and were disqualified.

Junior Dominique Jackson (DJ to her friends) was a double winner, picking up first place in both the shot put and discus. Elizabeth Adkins earned 2nd in the discus, bettering her previous best by over 10 feet to 96-11. Janelle Yoshimoto finished 2nd in the Javelin and Ciera Wiser 3rd.

Freshman Kayleigh Harper continues to impress in the high jump, equaling her best and earning 2nd place. Oak Harbor cleaned up in the long and triple jump, with Ramos, Sarah Young, Yoshi and Katelyn Bristow finishing 1-2-3-4 in the long jump and Bristow and Chylan Bass finishing 1-2 in the triple jump.

The girls also have a number of athletes in the top 5 in WESCO 3A. Allison Duvenez has the best time in the 300m hurdles and has the 4th best time in the state in 3A. Also best in WESCO 3a is the 4x400 relay team. Janessa Ramos is ranked 2nd in WESCO 3A in 2 events, the 200m and long jump and is 3rd in the 100.
