VB 2013-09-10

The OH Volleyball squads kicked on their 2013 season with a trio of matches at home against Burlington-Edison.

Over in the dome, the freshman team, under coach Rick Swankie, wasted no time in demolishing the Tigers 25-10, 25-11, 25-9.  They finished their 3-game match before the JV team started their 2nd game.

It took a game the JV team a game to warm up (they fell 23-25), but turned things around in the 2nd and 3rd games, winning each 25-20 to win the match 3-1.  Showing early skills were front-row ladies Hannah Faught and Geslyne Barreta, and libero/DS Priya Osborne.

Game one of the varsity match was an interesting affair.  The game was back-and-forth early, with OH at one time having a 9-7 lead, but the Tigers fought back to tie at 10, then  went on a 6-2 run to take what appeared to be a commanding lead, but the Wildcats had some fight of their own and crawled back to within 1 point, 17-16.  B-E was able to put the game away, though, to win 25-20.

In game 2 of the varsity match, the Tigers showed why they are a perennial volleyball powerhouse.  In 2012 the Tigers were the 2A state champs and in 2013 finished 6th in state and are currently ranked 4th by the Seattle Times.  They won game 2, 25-7, and made it look effortless.

The Wildcats recovered a bit in game 3, but scored 11 points to the Tigers' 25 and giving B-E the 3-game sweep.

The team travels to Mt. Vernon on Thursday the 12th, the plays their league opener at home against Stanwood on Tuesday the 17th.
