Oak Harbor and North Whidbey Middle School girls basketball teams faced off in the first of up to four meetings this year in the OHMS gym on Monday, March 2nd.

First up were the 7th grade girls. The two teams were evenly matched, with OHMS having better guards and NWMS having better inside players. NW played best in the first half, leading 9-6 at the end of the 1st, and 22-16 at the half. OHMS came back after halftime, scoring 10 points in the 3rd while holding NW to 5, cutting the Cougar lead to just 1 point. NW scored first in the final period to lead 29-26, then Annie Leete hit a 3-pointer to tie the game late, then hit another bucket to give OHMS a 31-29 win. Leete and Kiesha Loftin from NWMS shared scoring honors in the game with 17 points each.
