It was a wild and crazy Friday night in the OHHS gym as the annual Student-Staff game, sponsored by the OHHS Key Club, was played with a couple of new twists.
There were two staff teams this year – both men’s and women’s, with matching student teams, and for the first time, underclassmen were playing. The two teams alternated each quarter, ending up with a full half of play. The game was hosted by Mariah Ferguson and Ver Starr. The staff brought along some cheerleaders of their own, namely Che Edoga, Rae Wood, Erica Riley and Linda Otruba. Referees were Gary Brundidge and Shane Evans.
The ladies went first, and after the first 10 minutes, the students were comfortably ahead 26-7. The guys came out in the 2nd and played hard and fast. The staff team scored 19 points but allowed 18, leaving the students in the lead 44-26 at halftime.
The ladies were again first in the 2nd half, and the staff could muster only two points after 10 minutes of play while letting the students take the lead to an insurmountable 61-28.
The staff team tried in the final period, but could only lessen the gap, not close it, and the students wound up winning the game 77-66.
Key for the men’s staff team was Scott Collins, with Mike Washington getting points as well. Jeremy Day and Dwight Lundstrom were effective from the paint. Rounding out the men’s team were Bill Weinsheimer, Jonathan Atkins, Justing Ronning, Jeremy Day, Dave Smith, Todd Showalter and Peter Esvelt.
The ladies’ team consisted of Amanda Reed and Kerri Molitor inside with Lori McKole, Pat Felger and April Billiter handling the ball. Filling out the roster were Jessica Wiekle, Summer Lefler, Maya Kilmer, Shannon McLeod and Windy Veach.
