Timeout with...Anthony Yockey, boys swimming

Anthony Joseph Yockey is a senior at OHHS and a member of the swim team. The 5’7” freestyle/breast specialist was born in San Diego, CA on November 2nd and has lived in Oak Harbor for the past 2 years. In addition to OH and San Diego, Anthony also lived in Guam, Hawaii, Idaho and Florida. He is the son of Joe, a Navy EOD Specialist and Verna, a nurse, and has 2 younger sisters. One of the sisters, McKenna, is also a swimmer for OHHS.

Anthony’s favorite class this year is Chemistry, as he enjoys science, and his favorite teacher has been Mr. Allen, because “he’s funny.”

When asked why swimming and not basketball or wrestling, Anthony said it’s because not only is swimming an individual sport, it requires little coordination! He says one of his strengths is his start, but also acknowledges that he needs to work on the mental aspect of swimming, getting focused and ready to race. His goal this year is to get to the state meet, and he is well on his way, as the team had an outstanding season this year.

When not in the pool, Anthony likes football, but hasn’t played since 10th grade due to an injury, and he likes snowboarding in the winter and sailing in the summer. On his iPod you can normally find a lot of rock music, leaning towards the heavy metal side. One if his favorite movies is ‘Tommy Boy”, and he’s a news junkie, watching a lot of TV news.

Anthony is seriously considering entering the US Navy after graduation. If he could have his choice of orders, he said he’d like to go to Africa, as he’s always wanted to go there.

Something you probably didn’t know about Anthony: He is awesome at handstands!
