Track 2013-05-08 - WESCO Championships day 1

After the first day of competition, there are 2 champions and 18 Wildcats with spots in next week's District meet.

Wednesday afternoon at Shoreline Stadium, finals were held in 9 events - boys and girls 1600, boys and girls long jump, boys shot put, high jump and pole vault and girls discus and javelin.  Oak Harbor won 2 of those events.

Chris Hailer won the high jump with a leap of 6-2 (his best this year is 6-6, 3rd best in the state)
Jeremy Foster won the shot put with a throw of 49-11, a new personal best, and gives him the 10th best throw in the state.

Other top 3 finishers in finals Wednesday were John Rodeheffer (2nd in the 1600 with a new PR of 4:28.61), Ciera Wiser 2nd in javelin, and Clayton Richardson in the 1600 (3rd, also with a new PR).

Others competing in finals and earning a trip to next week's meet are Christina Wicker, Alex Laiblin and Jonalynn Horn in the 1600, Taylor Deconzo in the discus and javelin, Dayne Herron and Jon Laningham in the shot put, Jacob Olson in the high jump, Connor Parmenter and Keenan Davilla in the pole vault and Allen Hills in the long jump.

Friday evening will be finals in the remainder of the events.  Christina Wicker won her 800m preliminary and the girls 4x200m relay was 2nd in prelim action and look good going into Friday's meet.

Friday's field events get underway at 5:30pm with running event going at 6pm.  The top 16 in each event move on to the District Meet next week at Quil-Ceda Stadium in Marysville.
