VB 2014-11-04 playoff vs Shorewood

If you didn't make the trip down to Shorewood HS last night for the 2nd round of the District 1 3A Volleyball tournament, you missed the match of the season!

Shorewood started the season slow, going 0-4, then went on a 10-0 run until the final match of the season, when OH came to town on Senior Night and swept the Thunderbirds.

Even at that, the T-Birds were the #1 seed going into the District tournament.

Oak Harbor has had a few ups and downs over the season, but won their last 4 matches to get the #4 seed.

On the first day of the tournament, Oak Harbor faced #5 seed Ferndale and were swept 3-0 by 25-23, 25-18, 25-20 game scores.

Shorewood fell to #8 seed Marysville-Pilchuck 3-1, setting up a loser-out rematch between Shorewood and Oak Harbor just a week after their regular season match.

Shorewood came out on fire, winning the first game 25-19 and the second 25-21.

Then the Wildcats went to work.

Game 3 went to Oak Harbor 26-24, then in the 4th game, after having a 5-point lead at one time, the 'Cats were sitting on game point, 24-23 when Junior Geslyne Baretta served the perfect ace to tie the match and force a 5th game.

In the final game, Oak Harbor grabbed an early lead, and although Shorewood closed the gap, Oak Harbor won the set 15-12 and the match 3-2.

The next match for the Wildcats will be at Marysville-Pilchuck High School on Thursday the 6th against Arlington at 5pm.

Right after that match, Ferndale and Glacier Peak will tangle.

The winners of those two matches will play each other for 3rd place and the final slot in the State Tournament.  That match will be on Saturday the 8th at 3pm.

In the winner's bracket, Pilchuck and Edmonds-Woodway will face off for the District 1 championship  at 5pm at MPHS.
