Girls Tennis update - 2015-03-30

Last week was a mixed bag for the Wildcat girls tennis team as they played 3 matches over 5 days.

Monday the 23rd the varsity squad hosted Ferndale, and the match could have gone either way.  Ferndale won all three doubles matches and Oak Harbor won the first three singles matches (Kenzie Perry, AnnaBelle Whitefoot and Alyssa Eden), which left the #3 singles to decide it all.  That final match was hard-fought, with OH winning the first set 6-2 but losing the second 6-3.  In the deciding set, the Wildcat's Tamia Rios went the distance, but eventually fell 7-5 and Ferndale carried the day 4-3.

The very next day the 'Cats traveled to undefeated and perennially strong Glacier Peak, falling 7-0 in straight sets.

Friday, the girls got their first team win of the young season, an important win over league rival Everett by a close 4-3 margin.  Oak Harbor carried all the singles matches but fell in all of the doubles play.  Perry won 6-3, 6-2, Whitefoot 6-2, 6-0, Rios 6-4, 6-0 and Eden 7-6(2), 6-2.

The team continues league play this week with two away matches, at Stanwood and at Marysville Pilchuck.

On the JV side, the Ferndale match was postponed, with no makeup date scheduled.

At home on Tuesday, the JV girls also had a hard time against Glacier Peak, losing all 7 matches.  On the bright side, the 1st doubles team of Emily Brown and Chloe Stowell carried their 2nd set into a tiebreaker, as did the 3rd doubles team of Sophie Dickinson and Madeleine McKenzie in their 1st set.

Photos from JV match vs GP are posted HERE.

Friday at Everett, the JV squad also got their first win with a 4-3 win over Everett.  Emma Wezeman at 3rd singles won 6-4, 6-4 and Renne Rickards won 6-2, 5-7, 10-8.  In doubles it was 1st doubles Emily Brown and Brianne Deguzman winning 6-7(6-8), 6-4(10-8) and 2nd doubles Chloe Stowell and Sarah Smith won 6-4, 6-4.

JV it at home twice this week, on Tuesday vs Stanwood and Friday vs Pilchuck.
