BBB recap through Jan 19

Since school returned to session after the Christmas break, the Oak Harbor boys have played 5 games, only two at home.

On Jan 7th the Wildcat men's basketball team hosted the Getchell Chargers, winning 2 of the 3 games played that day.

The freshman team wasted no time jumping all over their opponents, leading 18-7 at the first horn and 34-15 at halftime.  The final score closer than it should have been as the Wildcat freshmen eased up in the 2nd half.  Oak Harbor 59, Getchell 28 was the final.  Joshua Cote scored 17, Jordan Davenport 14 and JJ Mitchell 11 to lead the team.  Ty Baker finished with 7, Kurtis Zylstra 4, and Adam Nelson and James Lage 3 each.

A big 4th quarter by Getchell proved the difference in the JV game.  Up by only 4 at halftime and 6 at the end of the 3rd, the Chargers exploded for 18 4th-quarter points to win the JV team 49-32.  Diangelo McKinney led the JV squad with 11 pints, Savion Passmore and D'Andre Bellamy scored 5 each, Alex Waner, JJ Johson and Preson Rankin 3 each and Sean Erskine 2.

Regulation time in the varsity game ended the same way the girls game against Sedro-Woolley ended just the day prior - in a 41-41 tie.  Drew Washington was the difference in the extra period, scoring 11 of his 22 points as the team won 55-49.  In addition to Washington, Zach Gibbs was in double figures with 13.  Dyllan Harris finished with 8 points and Elijah Smith and Gabe Groenig scored 6 each.

The following Friday the Wildcats took on the visiting Mountlake Terrace Hawks, at the time leading in the WESCO 3A South.

Both the Freshman and JV teams, while playing hard, were outmatched.  The Freshman team lost 62-42 and the JV team 66-35.

In the Freshman game, Cote led the team with 12 points.  Princeton Lollar scored 9, Kurtis Zylstra 7, Adam Nelson, Ty Baker and Eli Loera 4 points each and Justin Ellison 2 points.

For the JV team it was Sean Erskine with 8, Paul Quinday and D'Andre Bellamy with 6 each, McKinney and Rankin 5 each, Passmore 2 and Waner 1.

Terrace controlled the varsity game early, leading 33-22 at halftime, but Dyllan Harris came out of the locker room, scoring 15 points in the 3rd quarter alone to close the score to just 2 points, but the magic did not continue and the Hawks won the game 69-57.  Harris finished with 22 points, Washington with 17 and Zach Jones with 10.  Zach Gibbs scored 6 and Shane Huttula 2.
