GBB recap through Jan 19th

Sorry it took so long, but finally, here are the girls basketball results through January 19th.

Way back on January 6th, the Wildcat girls hosted Sedro Woolley.

In the dome, the Freshman squad got a nice 72-37 win, as Jaden Jesus poured in 19 pints.  Michaela Dasch also finished in double-digits with 10 points.  Kayla Roy scored 5, Kyanna Prosch and Morgan Kenaley scored 3 points each and Lydia Peplinski finished with 2.

The JV game was close throughout, with the Cubs leading 14-12 at the end of the first, and 20-18 at the half, and the Wildcats leading 28-27 after 3, but some hot shooting by Woolley in the 4th gave the visitors a 43-39 win.  Janae Payne (JP) led the team with 10 points.  Bryn Langrock ended with 9, Rosie Mooki 8, Rahsanna Graham (RG) 6, Brook Peplinski 3 and Kiesha Watts 2.

In the nightcap, Oak Harbor fell into a 14-9 hole in the first, but reversed things in the 2nd to take a 24-20 halftime lead.  Oak Harbor led 36-29 going into the 4th period and were outscored 12-6 to end regulation in a 41-41 tie.  In the overtime period, free throws proved the difference.  Oak Harbor scored only one field goal (a 3-pointer) and 4 FTs, while Sedro scored twice, but drained 11 FTs to win the game 56-48.  Joanna Leete finished with 21 points to lead the Wildcats.  Jinai Guzman and Deja Bunch each scored 7, Julie Jansen 4 and Natalie Fiallos 3.  Kenna Prosch, AnnaBelle Whitefoot and Hayley Lundstrom scored 2 points each.

After a week on the road, the girls returned home on Jan 15th for a pair of games against Shorewood.  There was no Freshman game that night, so several of the C-team players were brought up to the JV team.

While the JV team played solid basketball for 3 quarters, a letdown in the final period allowed the visitors to leave with a 44-32 win.  Rosie Mooki paced the 'Cats with 12 points.  Watts scored 8, Payne 5, RG 4, Jones 2 and Dasch 1.

Shorewood's varsity squad, while young (only two seniors, and featuring 4 sophomores and 2 freshmen), was very good.  They jumped out to a large early lead and maintained throughout, winning 81-47.  For Oak Harbor, Leete scored 18, Langrock 11, Guzman 9, Jansen 6, Lundstrom 2 and Whitefoot 1.

Two days later, on Jan 17th, the girls were at home again, this time against Meadowdale.  The freshman team led until the final eight seconds, when a pair of free throws by the Mavericks tied the game at 27.  Oak Harbor was able to get the ball upcourt and with just 1 second left, Michaela Dasch grabbed a rebound and put it back up for the 29-27 win.  Dasch finished with 8 points, Jesus 7 Kyanna Prosch 6, Roy 4 and Aelizah Espirtu 2.

Meadowdale grabbed an 18-10 first-quarter lead and while the Wildcats got close, they could not close the gap, falling 53-39.  Mooki (14) and Graham (10) topped the Wildcat scoring.  Watts and Payne scored 5 each, Peplinski 3 and Jones 2.

While the first quarter of the varsity game was close, with the Wildcats down by just 2 points at the first buzzer, 15-13, the visiting Mavericks led 34-22 at the half.  In the 3rd, the Wildcats came out on fire, doubling their first-half score and trailed by only 4 points, 48-44, to start the final period.  In the end, though, the 'Cats had to foul to stop the clock and Meadowdale left the gym with a 61-53 win.  Leete scored 16, Fiallos 9, Jansen 7, Langrock and Whitefoot 6 each, Lundstrom and Kenna Prosch 4 each, and Jinai Guzman 1.  Deja Bunch missed the game with a foot injury.

No video from this game, sorry.
