Cross Country 2012-09-20 at City Beach

The OHHS Cross Country team held their one and only home meet Thursday afternoon at City Beach Park in Oak Harbor, hosting Everett and Monroe.

First off were the JV boys, and Oak Harbor completed the sweep, capturing the top 7 spots and earned the perfect score - 15.

First across the line was Stephen Miller who ran the 2.65 mile course in 17:16.  Following him were Gunnar Melnick, Brendan Bristow, Caleb Peek, Nathan Richardson, Tristin Mirabal and Jon Dix in scoring finishes.

Next up was the girls race.  The 2.8 mile course was finished by winner Alex Laiblin of Oak Harbor in 18:40, then 5 Monroe runners crossed the line before Christina Wicker finished in 20:03.  Other OH scoring finishers were Ashely Everett, Marisa Sligh, Mackenzie Jackson Caitlyn Dodge and Carlie Kenny.  Monroe as a team finished in 1st place with 20 points, OH second with 37 and Everett 3rd with 70.

Oak Harbor took team honors in the boys varsity race by capturing the top 3 spots.  Sophomore John Rodeheffer was first in 15:42, Jasan Salas 2nd and Clayton Richardson 3rd.  Two Monroe runners finished next, then it was Patrick Mayer, Caley Powers, Alexander Krantz and Isaac Matthews in scoring position.  The Wildcats finished with 20 points, Monroe with 45 and Everett 69.

The following weekend, the runners headed to Seaside, Oregon for their annual trip to the 3-course challenge, this year taking nearly the entire team - 44 runners in all.  The event features more than 2, 700 runners from over 100 high schools from the Pacific Northwest and even Hawaii, and 22 middle schools from Oregon and SW Washington.

The Wildcats produced two top-10 finishers.  John Rodeheffer was 4th and Alex Laiblin 9th in the 5,000 meter hard court.  Patrick Mayer (53), Alexader Krantz (69), Clayton Richardson (76) and Rachel Crowther (59) were in the top 100 in that race as well.

In the 5,000m moderate course, top 100 finishers from OH were Jason Salas (12th), Isaac Matthews (51), Christina Wicker (12), Ashley Everett (46), and Carlie Kenny (61).

Gavin Stewart was the first Wildcat across the line in the 4,500m 'easy' course, finishing in 42nd overall.  Also in the top hundred in the boys race were Caley Powers (49) and Logan Clark (57).  For the girls it was Marisa Sligh (24), Jessica Ganswig (71) and Faith Callies (92).
