The 4 boys AAU teams each played 2 games at OHHS this past Saturday against Everett and Cascade, with some pleasant surprises along the way.
In the dome, the 5th grade team won their game against Everett. The reported score was 28-24 but 30-17 was in the scorebook. It was the first win of the year for the 5th grade boys. They could not keep up the winning and fell to Cascade in the 2nd game 20-39.
5th grade photos are HERE.
Also in the dome, the 6th grade boys won their first game of the season, beating Everett 27-24. Everett dominated through most of the game and was leading 22-16 starting the final period, but the OH boys came alive with 11 points while the defense held Everett to just 2 points. In the second game, Cascade won 49-16 (scorebook) or 57-27 (reported). Take your pick.

The 7th grade team has played decent basketball, but often can't seem to get those few extra points for the win. In their first game they beat Everett 52-38 for their 2nd win of the year. Z. Jones was the leading scorer with 23. D. Sellgren put in 10, J. Sturdevant 8, B. Coleman 6 and G. Eccleston 5. In game two, the boys played a tight, consistent game but wound up on the short side of a 61-60 score. Jones again led the team, this time with 24 and Sturdevant was also in double figures with 14. H. Adams finished with 8, Eccleston 7 and T. Bobo 2.

In 8th grade game against Everett, the team was missing 3 starters due to a band commitment, but the rest of the team rallied and played some good basketball. At the end of the first OH was leading 10-7 and still held a 18-17 lead at the half. The 3rd period was not kind to the boys as they scored only 6 points while allowing 7. They couldn't dig themselves out of the 11-point hole and fell to the Seagulls 47-35. McKenzie led the scoring with 22 points, Gray hit for 5, Galio 4, Zafra and Mattila 2 each. Things didn't get much better in the 2nd game as after ending the 1st period in a 12-12 tie, Cascade went on a 22-8 run to open a 34-20 halftime lead. OH made up 3 of the points in the 3rd, but again the Cascade offense went wild, hitting for 24 points in the final period and winning 69-46. In this game, Drew Washington scored 15, Gibbs and Mackenzie 9 each, Rennes 8, Mattila 4 and Wiedrich 2.

The individual scoring does not necessarily add up to the team scores as the scorekeeping was not always perfect. The same goes with any misspelled names. If any names are misspelled, send an email and they will be corrected immediately.
