Boys Basketball 2-5-2010 vs Stanwood

For their final home game of the 2009-2010 season the Wildcats hosted the 2nd place Stanwood Spartans.

The freshman team had a decent first quarter, holding Stanwood to 7 points while scoring 6, but the 2nd quarter was all Spartans as they scored 12 and held OH to just 2 points. Stanwood continued strong in the 2nd half, scoring in double digits each period while holding the Wildcats to singles. When the dust settled it was Stanwood 44, OH 20. On the plus side, OH was able to get 9 players to get the ball in the hoop, but only London Cook was able to get it in more than once, as he scored 6 to lead the team. Scoring 2 points each were Anthony Stewart, Chris Hailer, Isaiah Trower, Anfernee Angkaw, Michael LaBelle and Kiefer Hermann. Jackson Knoll and Trenton Cargill scored 1 each.

There were a couple of faces missing on the JV team. Connor Paul was out sick and his brother Trace is now full-time varsity, so Coach Ronning had only 7 players available. At the end of the first period the OH JV team was down 9-7 but outscored Stanwood 12-4 in the second to lead 19-13 at halftime. The Wildcats built on that lead, extending it to 10 points, 37-27 at the end of the 3rd. That's when things got ugly. Stanwood scored 24 points in the 4th period alone, 12 off of free throws, to win 51-48. Patrick Bell came off the bench to lead the team in scoring with 11 points and David Tillotson added 10 more. Kevawn Brooks had 8 and Corey Houck 7 while Matt Burgoyne, Paul Johannsen and Dayne Herron scored 4 each .

Stanwood showed why they are one of WESCO's top teams. They took an early 20-15 lead in the first and 32-23 at the half. The Wildcats just didn't have an answer for Stanwood's outside game as the Spartans hit six 3-point attempts in the 2nd half and won going away, 75-54. Colby Anter, helped by a strong first quarter, led the team with 16 points. Mike Washington, Jr. scored 13 and Denzel Hardin 11. Rashaad Smith had 8 and Jay Stout and Ryan Fakkema scored 3 each.

The Wildcats finish the year with a trip to Marysville and end the year with a visit to Monroe. Oak Harbor beat the Bearcats by 20 points in their first meeting this year.
