BBB 2011-01-20 vs Everett

Anyone who was at the boys basketball games last Thursday against the Everett Seagulls at OHHS sure got their money's worth, with two games going into overtime and a third decided in the final seconds.

In the dome, the Freshman team held a 2-point lead at the first break, then went on a 15-7 run to take a 23-13 lead into halftime. Everett came out and started the 2nd half by reversing the trend and closing to within 1 point, 26-27. The Seagulls made up that difference to end regulation tied at 37. In overtime, the Wildcats went cold and could score any points while Everett scored 6 to win 43-37. For the Wildcats it was Cortez with 11, Rennes with 10, Zafra 8, Groenig 3, Grace and Krantz 2 and Mattila 1.

Oak Harbor took a long time to get going in the JV game, with the first score coming with 3:10 left in the 1st quarter. Fortunately Everett was also cold, so the OH score made it 4-2. Oak Harbor wound up scoring 6 more points in the final 3 minutes of the period to lead 8-6. The two teams went back and forth in the 2nd, but OH held a 3-point 22-19 lead at halftime. Three Wildcats were in double figures - Drew Washington with 12 and Dayne Herron and Zach Gibbs with 10 each. Kiefer Hermann scored 6, Paul Johannsen 5, Cameron Faulkner 4, Andre Cumberbatch 3 and Patrick Bell 1.

At the end if the 1st period in the varsity game, Oak Harbor led 9-2 and built their lead to 14-2 in the 2nd before Everett cut away and closed to within 3 points. The first half ended with OH on top 23-18. Everett outscored the Wildcats 18-13 in the 3rd and tied the game at 36 and regulation time ended in a 55-all tie after Jay Stout hit a 3-pointer with 22 seconds left.

In overtime, free throws sank the Wildcats. Oak Harbor put up 7 points, but Everett put up 7 points just in free throws and won 67-62. The Wildcats shot only 17 free throws all night, making 7 while the Seagulls MADE 17 FTs out of 28 attempted.

Jay Stout led the Wildcats in scoring with 20 points, Denzel Massey added 15 and Mike Washington 14. Kevawn Brooks had 5, Trace Paul 4 and Connor Paul and Stevie Bratt 2 each.
