Wrestling 2011-01-04 vs Shorecrest & Shorewood

OHHS started the New Year with a pair of wrestling wins in a double dual meet vs Shorecrest and Shorewood at OHHS.

First, it was OH vs Shorewood, and the meet came down to the final matches but OH held on for the 35-34 win. Jahleel Vester, Josh Crebbin, Justin Everett and Jeremy Alonzo all won by pinfall and Brandon Stratton won an 18-3 tech fall. Oak Harbor earned 6 points when Shorewood forfeited at 103 lbs but we gave the point back by forfeiting at 125 lbs.

Against Shorecrest, it looked like it was all Oak Harbor for a while. In the first 8 matches, Oak Harbor earned 18 points through forfeits and another 18 by pins from Jahleel Vester, Brandon Stratton and Josh Crebbin against a pin and decision for Shorecrest. Then, Shorecrest went into the strength of their lineup and won 3 decisions and 2 pins to close the gap to 36-30. With one match to go, at 103 lbs, the meet was on the line. If Corey Trimbur won at 103, the Wildcats win. If Corey gets pinned, OH could lose on tiebreaker criteria. It never came to that as Trimbur needed only 30 seconds to put the Shorecrest wrestler on his back and earn 6 team points. Final score - OH 42, Shorecrest 30.

Next for Wildcat wrestling is the Everett Classic Tournament this weekend, then a nome meet vs Everett on Thursday, Jan 13th. The winner of the meet will be in 1st place in the WESCO 3A standings.
