Middle School Boys Basketball 2011-01-04 NWMS @ OHMS

The annual OHMS/NWMS boys basketball game took place Tuesday and the results were pretty much what was expected.

In the 7th grade game, OHMS sprinted to a 16-5 1st quarter lead and never looked back on their way to a 61-34 victory. Donavan Sellgren led the Panthers with 22 points and Dyllon Harris added 13 more. Jarod Johnson scored 7, Kaleb Harris 6, Kevyn Johnson 5, Preston Rankin and Allen Peruelo 4 each and Isaac DeLeon 2. For the Cougars it was Elijah Smith with 20 points, followed by Diangelo McKinney with 6, Taylor Kolste 5, Gryphon Frampton and Jared Hunt 2 each and Justin Cress 1. Coach Laiblin praised the progression of Frampton. He's becoming a force defending in the key and scored his first bucket ever in the game.

The 8th grade game was nearly the opposite of the 7th grade game, with North Whidbey jumping out to a 21-3 1st period lead. OHMS closed the gap to 31-17 at halftime but the Cougars finished out a 60-37 win.

Zach Jones scored 21 points to lead the Cougars and Gage Eccleston added 10 more. Brad Nehring hit for 8, James Clay scored 6, Connor Parmenter 3 and Jeremy Vester and Khaleel Smith had 2 each. For the Panthers is was Jacob Sturdevant with 18 points, mostly in the paint. Christopher Humphries added 9 and Bret Mertins, Sebastian Ceaser, Mason Dieter and Joseph Cortes scored 2 each.
