Baseball - week ending 3-28

Oak Harbor JV baseball has had an OK start to the season, ending pre-season play with a 2-3 record, beating Shorecrest 10-0 and Mountlake Terrace 6-4.  Losses were 5-9 to Arlington, 7-8 to Sehome and 4-9 to Bellingham.

The varsity squad was having some problems getting runs across the plate early, scoring just 3 runs in their first 3 games, but the bats came alive against visiting Shorecrest Wednesday afternoon.  A big inning pushed the score to 10-1 in the 5th inning, then, with bases loaded, the the OH batter was hit by a pitch, forcing the winning run across the plate.

The varsity squad went 1-4 in pre-season.

Monday the teams start regular season play, with the varsity team traveling twice to Pilchuck, and hosting the Tommies on April 2nd.

The JV squad plays at home on the 1st and 4th.

Boys Soccer 2014-03-28 vs Everett

Friday was dry but windy, and there was exciting soccer on the field at Wildcat Memorial Stadium as the 'Cats took on the Everett Seagulls.

The JV game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Everett scoring late to avoid the loss. With the tie, the JV Wildcat soccer team is now 0-3-1 and Everett JV is 0-4-1.

JV photos are posted HERE.

The varsity game was a lot different.  The Wildcats controlled the game from start.  While the ball spent most of the first half in Seagull territory, and despite multiple shots on the Everett goal, the Wildcats just couldn't get the ball in the net.

In the 2nd half, Everett was able to get past the Oak Harbor defense and get a goal.  With the pressure on, the 'Cats responded, scoring with under 5 minutes left to make it 1-1.  The defense held and regulation time ended with the same 1-1 score.

In the first 5-minute overtime period, Oak Harbor rushed the Everett goal and got the ball in for the sudden victory score.  Final 2-1 Oak Harbor.

As sweet as the win was, it was marred by two red cards against Wildcat players and one against Everett.

The win allows the Wildcats to maintain 1st place in the WESCO 3A North with a 3-0-1 record.  The tie was a 0-0 non league contest against Bellingham.

Varsity photos are posted HERE.

The Wildcats travel to Stanwood on March 31st, then take the rest of the week off from games, resuming at home on April 7th vs Pilchuck.
