Tennis - week ending 3-18-2011

The 2011 girls tennis season started with a pair of sweeps on Monday the 14th against Stanwood. Both the JV and Varsity squads were dominated by the Spartans, with every match won by Stanwood in straight sets.

On Wednesday, the results against Mountlake Terrace were much better. The JV team won 6-1, with all the singles players, Chelsey Mackenzie, McKenzie Schneider, Jessica Travenetti and Rachelle Muzones all winning in straight sets. In doubles, the 1st team of Molly Murdock and Jenny Landingin won their first, lost the 2nd, then fell in the tiebreaker. 2nd doubles Brittany Rigby and Jeselle Camacho and 3rd doubles Kyla McKinney and Leslie Castillo both won in straight sets.

The varsity team won 5-2, with all the singles players winning, and only Cady O'Dell going to 3 sets. She won 1-6, 6-1, 6-0. Belen Cifuentes, a Spanish exchange student at 2nd doubles won 6-4, 6-4, Clarissa Abadesco won 6-1, 6-1 and Shannon Neilon won 7-6(3), 6-1. OH was able to pick up a single win in doubles, with the 3rd team of Jennifer Fremd and Molly Van Dam winning 2-6, 7-5, 6-3.

On Friday against Everett, the JV team fell by a close 4-3 margin, with 5 matches having tiebreakers. Mackenzie won in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, Schneider won her first 6-2, lost the 2nd 4-6, but won her tiebreaker 10-8. Travenetti lost her first 3-6 and won the second 6-2 before falling in a long, grueling 14-16 tiebreaker. In doubles, Rigby and Camacho won 6-2, 6-3 to end the OH victories.

Down in Everett the varsity team was having trouble with the Seagulls and lost 7-0. Alexa Holmly, moved into 4th singles due to the absence of Abadesco won her first set and 2nd doubles of Jordan Faralan and Cassie Gianino also won their first set for the only OH wins.

Next week the varsity team is at home Monday against Lynnwood and Wednesday against Meadowdale while the JV team is away.
