Even more girls basketball - summer league

The varsity white team finished out their summer league schedule with a pair of games at Sedro-Woolley HS Monday evening.

The first game was against Lakewood, a AA school from the Arlington/Marsyville area, and they didn't have a chance against our girls. The girls ran out to an early lead, and kept a 2-1 margin for most of the game, ending with a final of 57-24. Denmon scored 20 to lead the Wildcats, with Kathryn Fisken hitting 4 free throws to end with 11 and Nicki Mowbray dropping 5 field goals for 10 points. Others getting through the rim were Cheyenne Tubo 2, Clarissa Abadesco 4, Mariah Ferguson 6, and Becca Moeai 4.

The second game, which started 5 minutes after the first game ended was against league opponent Stanwood. For most of the game the score was very close, with neither team more than 2-3 points in front of the other.

Until late in the game.

With only about 3 or 4 minutes left, Stanwood went on a tear, opening up a 10-point lead. The Wildcat women were able to whittle it down to just 3 points, but couldn't get the last shot off in time and lost 43-40. Individual scoring was as follows: Denmon 15, Cori Henricksen 7, Tubo 6, Mowbray and Moeai 4 each, Ferguson and Abadesco 2 each.

Next up are the final summer league games for JV purple and gold on Wednesday. Following that is the week-long team camp at Eastern Oregon University for all players.
