More summer league basketball

I spent most of the evening in Mt. Vernon Wednesday, taking some photos of both the boys and girls summer league games.

In the field house at Mt. Vernon high school, an exceptionally dark and poorly lit gym, both the girls varsity white and purple played two games.

Varsity white played both games against Burlington-Edison teams - their Blue and Gold teams. The first was against the Blue, and it was a close game throughout - neither team building more than a 2-3 point lead. However, in the end, the 'Cats were able to pull it out and win. Freshman Mariah Ferguson got the start in that game, and another freshman, Abby Leete, saw considerable playing time.

The second game, against B-E blue, was Oak Harbor all the way. I can't recall the exact final score, but OH won by double digits, and was close to doubling up on BE.

The varsity purple's first game was against Lakewood, and although our girls played tough, they just couldn't get in a groove. The second game was against the Mt. Vernon team, and I don't have a final score on that one.

Turning to the boys, OH has one team entered in a JV league, and they played two games at Skagit Valley College. The first was against TCBA Elite, an AAU travel squad that looked to me like it was mostly incoming seniors. I didn't was their game against us, but did watch another game TCBA was in, and they looked fairly good. Our JV team, which is mostly this year's freshman team, played right with then and only lost by two.

The second game was against Sedro Woolley, a much better match. The Sedro team was small but very quick, while we had the height. In this game, the height won out and the team won by a 20-16 score.
