GBB Wenatchee Tournament

What a weekend!

The girls varsity team traveled to Wenatchee for a 2-day, 5-game tournament hosted by Wenatchee High School the weekend of June 14-15.

The first game was noon Saturday against 3A Eastmont, which is just across the river from Wenatchee. This game was a blowout from the opening minute. At halftime the Wildcat women ran the score to 31-9, with a final score of 58-24. Jessica Denmon lead the scoring with 19, while Nicki Mowbray was also in double digits with 13. Becca Moeai was a force in the rebounding column, and scored 6 of her 8 in the 2nd half. Everyone else got on the board as well: Cheyenne Tubo 7, Cori Hendricksen 7, Kathryn Fisken 5, and Tiffany Earnhart 1.

Game 2 on Saturday was at Wenatchee Valley College against the select team "Way to Win". This game saw the Cats on the short end of a rough, physical 60-29 score, but our girls never gave up, and closed some of the gap in the 2nd half. Denmon again was high scorer with 14, with 12 coming in the 2nd half. Coach McLeod said he was pleased with the way the girls played against that team.

Game 3 on Saturday was back at the high school against host Wenatchee. Jessica Denmon scored 20 of the team's 39 points to win the game. It was fairly close throughout, but 2nd half scoring won it for the girls.

After the games, most of the team retired to Casa Mowbray (aka Travelodge) for a little pool action. After most of an hour and a half playing and splashing around, they called it a night.

Sunday morning saw two more games. The first was against new WESCO South team Glacier Peak of Snohomish, and this was a very low-scoring game which Oak Harbor won 25-20. Denmon scored 9, Earnhart 4, and Clarissa Abadesco, who only played on Sunday, scored 3.

The second (and last) game was after only a 10-minute break, and was against Central Valley HS. This game was really close, but in the end our 37 points wasn't quite enough. 15 came from Denmon, while Abadesco added 9.

Although the girls didn't win as many games as they wanted, everyone got a lot of playing time, and gained a lot of experience playing against quality opponents.

I took a lot of photos, including some from the pool, and have them posted at http://www.shutterfly.com/pro/OakHarborSports/highschool

Enjoy!
