Girls summer league basketball

The Oak Harbor girls basketball team went to their first weekend tournament of the summer - at Snohomish High School. There were many great teams there, including defending 4A state champ Lewis & Clark.

OH took three teams to this tournament - JV Gold, made up of incoming freshmen coached by Todd Showalter, JV Purple coached by Bob Stremel, and the Varsity coached by Brett McLeod.

JV Gold improved over the two day tournament, and several girls showed a lot of grit and determination - they were showing that they wanted to be a part of Wildcat basketball.

JV Purple won their first game on Sunday, and were playing a very aggressive Jackson team in their second game of the day.

Varsity had a big loss in the first game. Not on the scoreboard, but on the floor, only about 5 minutes into the game Jasmine Chong went down with a knee injury and was out for the rest of the weekend. We'll have to see what her doctor says about when she can return. Since Ro Smith couldn't make the tournament, Ariel Brothers was brought up from JV and saw significant playing time at post on the varsity team.

Summer league play in Mt. Vernon starts with JV action this Monday, and the next tournament is at Prairie HS just outside Vancouver, WA
