Boys Tennis update

There's been a lot of boys tennis action this past week.

On September 12th, the teams faced off against a strong Everett team with the JV at home and varsity on the road.  Between the two teams OH could get only a single victory, Harrison Miller at 4th singles on varsity, who needed 3 sets to finish off his opponent 3-6, 7-6(1), 6-2.

The entire team traveled to Getchell the next day.  Getchell doesn't have a JV team so there were a number of exhibition matches.  The varsity squads had a grueling day, with 4 of the 7 matches going three sets.

Unfortunately, while nearly sweeping the singles matches, OH could not get a double win and fell to the Chargers 3-4.  Wildcat winners were Will Southard at 1st singles, 4-6, 7-5, 6-1, David Kusnick at 2nd singles 5-7, 6-1, 6-1 and Harrison Miller at 4th singles 6-2, 2-6, 6-3.  Getchell won all the exhibition matches.

After taking the weekend off, the teams were back in action on Monday the 17th against Mt. Vernon.  The varsity was on the road and JV at home.  At Mt. Vernon, the varsity team played hard against what Coach Mells called one of the best MV teams in many years, but lost 5-2.  Miller won at 4th singles 6-4, 6-3, and 3rd doubles Tom Dale and Jacob Nelson won a marathon match 2-6, 7-6(6), 10-6.  At home the JV scored a couple of victories, but the team score was the same.  JV winners were Caleb Byers at 3rd singles, who needed every bit of effort he could give to win 7-5, 4-6, 10-8.  The other winner was Alex Smith at 4th singles who won 6-3, 6-2.

Wednesday the varsity had the home match against Marysville Pilchuck and the JV team was on the road.  The JV team nearly won the match, but a forfeit at 3rd doubles proved the difference.  JV winners were Isaac Deleon at 2nd singles, 6-2, 6-0, Byers at 3rd singles 7-5, 6-3 and Smith at 4th singles 6-3, 6-0.

The varsity team posted a big 6-1 win, allowing the Tomahawks a win in 1st doubles.  At singles it was Southard 6-0, 6-1, Kusnick 6-1, 6-2, Carter Saar 6-0, 6-0 and Miller 6-3, 6-3.  2nd Doubles was Casiano Atienza and Antonio Unpingo 6-2, 4-6, 6-2 and 3rd doubles was Dale and Nelson 6-0, 6-1.
