FB 2012-09-07 at Arlington

Looking to start the season with a 2-0 record, the Wildcat varsity football team made the trip to Arlington last Friday night to take on the Eagles.

Things didn't look good early as the Wildcats went 3-and-out on their first two possessions.  Arlington scored on their second possession on a 78-yard pass play to a receiver who was open when the Wildcat defender fell down.  Not quite halfway into the first period it was 7-0 in favor of Arlington.

The Wildcat offense punted on their 3rd possession, but on the next play Dakota Sinchak intercepted a long Arlington pass, putting the Wildcat offense back in business at their own 30.  Eleven plays later the Wildcats had a first and goal at the Arlington 3-yard line when the quarter ended with Arlington leading 7-0.

On the first play of the second quarter, senior Fred Ferguson ran it in to tie the game at 7 with 11:55 left until halftime.

The two teams went back and forth for must of the remainder of the 2nd quarter, until the other Webster - Jojo, intercepted an Eagle pass at the Arlington 35 and returned it to the 21.  Three plays later it was Fred Webster again from 3 yards out to put the Wildcats ahead 14-7 with 2:22 remaining, and that score would stand until halftime.

Arlington opened the second half by running the opening kick back 82 yards then converting a 2-point PAT attempt to take a 15-14 lead.  The Wildcats responded with a long, clock-consuming 11-play drive that ended with Jon Lanningham diving in from 2 yards out.  Jojo Webster caught the PAT pass to put the Wildcats back up 22-15.

Arlington's first play after the OH score was a pass and was picked off by Isaiah Trower.  The Wildcats were able to move the ball into Eagle territory but eventually turned the ball over on downs.  Four plays later the Eagles punted back to Oak Harbor, and when the 3rd quarter ended the Wildcats were still on top 22-15 and had the ball at the Arlington 30.  A couple of miscues and penalties later, Sheyenne Sams broke loose and sprinted 30 yards to make the score 29-15 with 10:01 left in the game.

Oak Harbor scored once more with 4:08 left in the game on a run by Fred Webster.  That score pushed the Wildcat lead to 36-15, and that score would be the final.

This week the Wildcats host the dangerous Lake Stevens Vikings, who are coming off an upset of preseason WESCO 3A top pick Marysville Pilchuck.  Game time is 7pm, don't be late.
