VB 2012-07-06 vs Mt. Vernon

Thursday evening the Wildcat volleyball team opened play at home with matches against Mt. Vernon.  New this year in the Wildcat gym is a new scoreboard - thanks to the Wildcat Booster Club for that!

Over in the field house, the Freshman team played a tight first game.  They were at game point, 24-18, but could not get that last point and fell 26-24.  The second game did not go well at all for the 'Cats as MV sealed the match win 25-14.  Oak Harbor showed life in the final game, but MV completed the freshman sweep by winning game three 25-20.

In JV action, our girls pounded the visitors 25-12.  The Bulldogs regrouped to take game two 25-21, but the Wildcats roared back to capture game three 25-14.

The varsity match was a marathon that lasted five games and well past 9 pm.  Oak Harbor got off to a slow start, allowing the visitors to build a 15-8 lead, but after a Wildcat timeout, a kill by Roshel Muzzall, an ace by Taylor Nienhuis and a block by the combination of Muzzall and Kayleigh Harper closed the game, then a kill by Ally McGuire cut the Bulldog lead to just one point.  Just a little later, a Harper service ace put Oak Harbor ahead 20-19.  The rest of game one was a seesaw, with Mt. Vernon prevailing 25-23.

Game two was nearly the opposite.  After a 10-10 tie, the Wildcats went on a 6-0 run, but MV came back to tie the game 20-20, and again at 24-24.  A kill by Harper and block by Harper and Muzzall gave game 2 to the Wildcats 26-24.

Game three was close throughout, with Mt. Vernon picking up the last few points to win 25-20.

In a win-to-stay-in game 4, the Wildcats got it done, winning 25-22.

The decisive game five started with senior Ally McGuire at the service line.  She served 6 straight times to built a commanding 6-0 lead in the 15-point game.  Back-to-back kills by Harper gave Oak Harbor match points, and an error on the Bulldogs won it for OH, 15-11.

OH plays next at Glacier Peak on 9/10, then gets the rest of the week off from competition.  They then get back into action on September 17th at home against Arlington.
