BBB 2013-01-02 vs Sedro-Woolley

Kicking off the new year with a trio of games, the Oak Harbor Wildcat boys basketball team hosted the Sedro-Woolley Cubs last Wednesday night.

In the dome, the freshman game was tight in the first half.  At the end of one it was SW 9-6 and at the half 19-16, but the Cubs blew the game open in the second half.  The Wildcats nearly matched their entire first half point output in the 3rd period, scoring 13, but Woolley tallied 22 points to take a 41-29 lead into the final quarter.  There, the hammer fell.  Sedro poured in 14 points in the final 8 minutes while holding the Wildcats to a goose egg.  Final score - Sedro-Woolley 55, OH 29.  Diangelo McKinney, Tyler Snavely and Shane Huttula each scored 6 for the 'Cats, DeAndre Mitchell finished with 4, Preston Rankin 3, and Savion Passmore and Tanner Walker 2 each.

The JV squad played most of their game playing catchup.  Down 7-0 nearly halfway through the first period, the Wildcats didn't score until the 4:20 mark when Zach Jones swished a 3-pointer.  Over those last 4 minutes the Wildcats scored 6 more while holding Sedro to 2 points, ending the first quarter tied at 9.  The second period was almost a repeat of the first, with the Wildcats getting their first score of the period at the 4:20 mark, but this one a 2-pointer.  When the two teams went into the locker room at halftime the score was tied again, this time at 15.  In the 3rd period Oak Harbor trailed early, but fought back and took a 2-point, 26-24 lead at the buzzer.  Both teams exploded offensively in the final period, with Sedro scoring 18 points but OH hit for 21 points and was able to hold off a late-game surge to win 47-42.  Cortez Ridley kept scorekeeper Misty Sellgren busy tallying up his 19 points while Jones finished with 8.  Donavan Sellgren and Ben Fikse each scored 5 points, Connor Parmenter and Gage Eccleston 4 each and JJ Johnson 2 points.

Oak Harbor raced to an early lead and led 12-3 with only 1:30 left in the first, but Sedro didn't quit and scored 5 more in the rest of the period and trailed the Wildcats 14-8 at the first buzzer.  In the second Sedro caught up and passed the 'Cats 23-21 with 3:15 left in the 2nd and the two teams went back-and-forth for the remainder of the half, which ended with the Wildcats on top 31-30.  In the 3rd, The Wildcat shooting went cold, with the team scoring only 5 points.  Sedro wasn't exactly hot, scoring 15, but it was enough to give them a 46-37 lead at the end of the 3rd.  The Wildcats came back alive in the final period, outscoring Sedro 16-10.  A late 3-ball by Jojo Webster was waved off by a foul that occurred before the shot and a last second shot bounced off the rim.  Sedro left our gym with a 56-53 win in their pocket.  Drew Washington topped the 'Cats with 21 points and Dayne Herron was a force inside with 19.  Webster finished with 7, Chris Hailer with 4 and Gabe Groenig with 2.

The 'Cats are on the road Friday at Mountlake Terrace then return home on Tuesday the 8th to take on Shorewood and Friday the 11th against Meadowdale.
